I kind of like these former Northeast Oklahoma (NEO) Railroad cabooses that were acquired by the Frisco.

How much use did they actually see in SLSF service?

    How were they used?

    Does anybody know?

Any photographs of them in actual service, as opposed to being on display?

Any photographs of them in NEO markings pre-SLSF?

    Hi Guys,

Just wanted to update everyone on the fate of the Frisco caboose SLSF 1111 here in Newburg, MO.

Unfortunately it is dying a slow death due to vandals shooting out the windows and stealing metal off the underframe. It is also very rusty and covered with mold now.

It is in dire need of a restoration, but due to lack of funds for the museum, I do not see that happening any time soon.

Maybe someone with the right amount of financial resources will come to the rescue, but I do not see the City of Newburg being able to afford to restore it. :(

They came with the railroad purchased by SLSF in early 1964.

    Hello Everyone,

Just a short note to let you know why the caboose SLSF 1111 has been allowed to deteriorate to the condition shown by the klrwhizkid photographs.

Newburg, MO is basically a lawless town. It has two police officers, one full time chief, and one part time patrolman. I am sorry to say that neither really do much besides watch TV and eat doughnuts at the police station. That is why the vandals get away with this nonsense.

As a citizen of Newburg I am ashamed by the lack of concern over the historical relics still left in Newburg. Most of the old folk that worked on the railroad have all died now. Their children have grown up now and have left Newburg for greener pastures far from the rural life. Those that have stayed have moved up the road to Doolittle where the living is better.

There is a glimmer of hope though. The Newburg Community Revitalization Program Group (NCRPG) has made great strides at restoring the Houston House, Lyric Theater, and the Sullivan House.

Maybe they will work with the Newburg Historical Society to help restore the old caboose.

Caboose SLSF 1111 is located south of I-44, Exit 179.

It sits on the south side, next to the white building of the Newburg Historical Society. This is 1 block east of Missouri Highway T and 1/2 block north of 1st Street (parallel to the railroad).

The address is 150 Water St, Newburg, MO.

    Hope this helps.
