At what point did the Frisco stop putting FRISCO FASTER FREIGHT on the sides of their boxcars and start the logo Ship it on the Frisco? This has been a puzzle for me. I have looked at some of my rolling stock as well as researched here. Would it be accurate to have cars with the 'Ship it' logo on my steam era layout? Will
Will, Don't know the specific dates, but the "Fast Freight" and "Ship it" slogans were applied to the SLSF boxcars, and some other types, in the early to mid 1950's, respectively. Perhaps others can fill in the actual dates when the two slogans were introduced. But, in answer to your question, no, the "Ship it" slogan would not have been in use during the steam era, even the late steam days. Ken
Steam power ended on the Frisco in 1952. The 'Ship It' slogan does not begin to appear on cars until at least 1954. Probably a safe bet that you wouldn't find any 'Ship It' cars behind Frisco steam. But it's your layout, have fun with it!
