Members of this board might be interested in knowing that there is a unpainted streamlined "Firefly" Pacific up for auction on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/FRISCO-STREAMLI...3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66:2|65:1|39:1|240:1318
Darn, I need to go back to work so I can afford just a couple more locos... First the 4500, then the one last steam loco I have wanted forever - Streamlined pacific. I heard the mechanism wasn't that good. I haven't run my undec version (never had taken it from the box) so not sure if that is true. They sure are proud of them and I thought narrow gauge stuff was bad. I didn't know that only 88 or so were made. Sigh... Happy trails, mike
Actually, the mechanism isn't that bad on the 4-6-2s. This guy also has a 182-187 painted on ebay starting at $549! He is proud of them isn't he? The 4-6-2s were my project with Sunset, and he was mad at me for a long time because nobody wanted them. Now look at how they sell.
Howdy, Too bad they didn't sell. The model does look very nice. I don't imagine we'll ever see another model of the streamlined version. The eBay guy is indeed proud of his iron. Glad to hear the mechanism runs well. I liked the non-streamlined version so well that I picked one up when they came out. I never thought I'd be modeling anything that wasn't on the Western and SW divisions....go figure. I think I'll fire up the paint shop this year and finish the pacific. I'll add a new motor and sound so I can run it at the club, too. Thanks for the response Don, mike
Another "Firefly" engine has turned up on ebay. This one appears to be more reasonably priced: http://cgi.ebay.com/SUNSET-MODELS-H...3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66:2|65:1|39:1|240:1318
Wow. $1100 for that first streamlined Pacific ! Apparently, somebody really wanted this thing. It didn't even have a paint job! Curious to see what the second one sells for since it is only at $240 now and seven bids in less that a day. BTW, for those wanting to paint and letter a streamlined SLSF Pacific, I have a set of the red stripe decals from Railgraphics that I have kept in a Zip Lock bag for several years. Let me know if you are interested. Ship IT on the Frisco! Rick
I have been watching this engine and with one hour left it is now up to $1,175. Way too rich for my blood. I will be interested to see what it goes for in the end. Steve
I have one of these now expensive streamlined Pacifics and it has been a challenge to get it to run on DCC, even with Back EMF. Seems that there are several places I need to insulate because it keeps shorting out. Also need to get a head lamp in it. Once I get it running I will assemble the FireFly train for a publicity photo. I think I will take out an insurance policy on it too. Ship IT on the Frisco! Rick
Good call, Rick! One of the more fun work experiences I had was about 11-12 years ago when I assisted with the collection of personal property inventory after a home loss, including lots o' HO items. It was quite fun - and the whole lot added up pretty quickly.
I know they are making a new run of these but since it's such a rare model I thought I would point it out. There is one of these on ebay right now. Good price compared to other listings and to the new ones. The base coat of blue is good, but the white stripe isn't a crisp line. There is no red striping, but it has been lettered. And either it doesn't have a head light or it was painted over. It also says that there a few parts that need to be reattached. http://cgi.ebay.com/StL-SF-Frisco-4...343858?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item1e66100172 Ethan
Another one has turned up: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sunset-Mode...515729?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item3f0cf7f291 Although it is claimed as "perfection", some things don't seem quite right. Rich
There is an unpainted Sunset Firefly locomotive for sale right now. Are decals available for the HO scale firefly locomotives? I have a painter lined up, but he doesn't think he can get decals. Thank you, Paul Moore
