    Hey All,

I have found that portions of the Burrton Sub on the Eastern Division began to be abandoned in 1986. Does anyone know if it was operated by BN in the 1980s?

    Thanks,

I made a quick look through my sources.

I'll start with the end of Frisco operations for context. The 1979 ETT doesn't list any scheduled trains for the Burton Sub, however, all of the 4 digit local trains had been off the ETT schedules by that point. The data sheet for assigned locals May 1 1977 indicates that train 5631 operated between Wichita and Ellsworth daily except Sunday.

The only source I have on BN train symbols doesn't include any of the local turns unfortunately. My best guess is the 5631 would have continued its daily run until reorganization began in early 82. More than likely (don't have anything to prove it, just a hunch) it would have been scaled back to a true extra as needed until abandonment began.

I'm hoping someone else has something more solid than my empirical evidence based guess.
