I'll be amazed if they ever actually produce them. The HO scale versions were announced in 2017. They've waited so long that scaletrains had time to establish themselves as a brand and develop their own SD38-2 model and produce it for us.
Just thinking out loud here, and don't shoot me if I'm really wrong here... With a little kitbashing to the top of the long hood of the 296 and 297, we could finally have those SD40-2 locomotives in N scale we have craved since 1978? JFM
