Intermountain's may product announcement is another run of 1958 Cu Ft 2 Bay Covered Hoppers. The Frisco is included in this run. This offering is for the repainted gray with large lettering version. As usual, 6 road numbers will be available. MSRP is $48.95 for this offering. Contrary to their locomotive production, Intermountain has been good about getting freight cars produced quickly. I think the batch of green 4750 hoppers took a little over a year to show up after announcement. Date: 10-46; SC 5-67 Stock Number / Car Number 48695-01 / 83554 48695-02 / 83625 48695-03 / 83677 48695-04 / 83742 48695-05 / 83799 48695-06 / 83816
I could be interested in a couple of the Frisco's. Anyone know when this car/scheme hit the rails? My modeled era is the autumn of 1964.
These cars carry a shop date of 5-67, so a few years outside of your era. Intermountain released a run of these hoppers in the their as delivered scheme that would fit in your 1964 time frame. https://www.intermountain-railway.com/ho/html/48609.htm
Thanks for the input Ethan. 5-67 is the date on the model (and was likely on the proto pic their developers used as a guideline)... but what I'm wondering is when the car type went into service, and when the gray w/block lettering scheme started getting applied to older cars. HOWEVER, in the absence of conclusive evidence, you have saved me some money!
Apologies for the lack of clarity. The as delivered models in black carry a build date of 8-46, a detail I should have included earlier. Now, if you're looking for a gray car with black lettering, Atlas has a slightly different prototype that was delivered in gray paint with black lettering and had a build date of 12-58. http://archive.atlasrr.com/Images/HOFreightCars/HOPS2/0408/17004A_TQ.jpg Atlas ran those cars once in their Trainman line, and at least once back in the old red box days. I bought up the as delivered models in black offering from a couple years ago as stand ins until I could find more of the newer scheme to replace with. If you're interested in adding some of the as delivered models to you layout, PM me.
The cars shown in the release that Ethan highlighted in post #1 above are not the same as the ones in the link he provided in his post #3. The ones on the link are black with white lettering. The ones in post #1 are gray with black lettering and do not show on Intermountain's web site despite being advertised in magazines recently.
Go the the Intermountain Railway web site, click on "Current Advanced Reservation Items", then click on "HO Scale". Page down to the listing for 1958 Cu. Ft. Covered Hoppers. The Frisco cars are the fourth in this group of hoppers. These are posted about midway down the page between the Milwaukee Road Rib Side Boxcars and the R-70-20 Refrigerator Cars. Please see the following link for the listing https://www.intermountain-railway.com/newshocomingsoon.html. If one clicks on the desired individual car image a larger view of that item with stock number, number suffixes and related car numbers, 6 in total, will display. Hope this helps. Thanks! Mark
What's crazy is, I went to the URL that is posted on their ad for the cars in the most recent Railroad Model Craftsman; http://www.irctrains.com and could not find them there. However this is the most direct link; https://www.intermountain-railway.com/ho/html/48695.htm
