Hey folks, online I find a SLSF transcon book, and 'Frisco Power' that gives me sticker shock, and one on early diesels- anything else out there? pictures tell 1000 words, so they are money savers huh? Being a modeler, those are a must. And I'd like to learn when and whatfor the lines were built. I try to drive along the routes, and abandoned lines in eastern OK. There is little trace of the poor KO&G. And I can't get a clue of Ft Smith & Western r-o-w. But I would love to do some research before I leave the house, or I end up with more questions than answers- thanks, Tony
Tony, A bibliography is available here: http://frisco.org/mainline/bibliography/ We'll have three more additions to that list soon. Charlie
Holy cow! What a Santa Claus list that is! I thought there was only 5 or 6 -beside the full color pictorials still in print... boy was I bad at google searching. I reckoned there were only 2 or 3 to cover my interests, but now I have to scratch up more money! But those older ones I'd like coming on the market is another thing eh? Good one Charlie, thank you very much!
The T.R.R.A. association's THE METEOR is on my Christmas list. Tony, I have most of these upstairs somewhere. When in Knoxville, stop by for a few days of reading. Happy Thanksgiving to all Frisco Freeks.
Charlie - Another book to add to your Frisco bibliography: "The Frisco and Steam" Midwest Railroader Hallmark Books, Shelby, Ohio 1982 Soft Cover, 8.5"x 11" Pages not numbered, but ~40-50 pages, b/w Pic attached. (Charlie - Can't get the pic to attach, being rejected because of "Security Issue". I don't know if it is the web site, or this stupid Windows 10 I'm stuck with now. I'll keep trying to get you the pic). Ken ps - You might also want to add the two Mary Alice Beemer (deceased) books on Newburg, Mo. They are about Newburg, but lots of Frisco related material in them both. Let me know.
Hmmm, no "The Leaky Roof, The Story of a Railroad" by Mahlon Neill White. Granted it was published by The Printery in Clinton and reprinted in 1970 and not easily found.
Also - "More Classic Trains" by Arthur Dubin, Kalmbach, 1974. Tells of The Meteor, the Texas Special, and more. Lots of detail on the passenger cars and operations. "The Official Pullman Standard Library, Volume 15, Western Railroads, W.D. Randall & William G. Anderson, RPC Publications, 1994. Lots of detail on the Meteor and Texas Special streamlined lightweight cars. K
Great. Send a scan and if you can, all of the information that I have for each book on the bibliography please. Thanks, Charlie
Sent Cover PDF to dropbox The Leaky Roof, The Story of a Railroad by Mahlon Neill White personal recollections The Printery, Clinton MO 25pps booklet 8.5"x 5.5" b/w
Last time I was in Clinton, the Henry County Museum had copies of The Leaky Roof for sale for less than eBay sellers usually ask. They don't appear to have an online stre, but they can be contacted directly: http://henrycountymomuseum.org
Charlie - Here are the details on two more good books for the Frisco bibliography as noted in my earlier post: "More Classic Trains" by Arthur D. Dubin Kalmbach Books, Milwaukee, WI, 1974 Chapter: "On the Frisco and Katy", page 244-263 Details and b/w pics of Frisco and Katy passenger trains, steam and diesel power, heavyweight and streamlined lightweight equipment, excellent text. "The Official Pullman-Standard Library", Volume 15 - Western Railroads by RPC Publications, Godfrey, Illinois, 1994 Chapter (no title): Frisco and Katy lightweight streamlined Pullman Standard equipment, pages 72-125. Details, plans, b/w pics - exteriors and interiors, excellent information in picture captions. A great reference. Cover pics of both books are posted in DropBox. Ken
Charlie - Here are the two additional Frisco related books for the frisco.org bibliography. "Hello from Newburg, Bicentennial City, 1776-1976" by Mary Alice Beemer (deceased) Bixler Printing Company, St James, MO, 1976, soft cover, 8.5"x 11', 53 pages, b/w pics The topic is Newburg's Bicentennial, but as a true railroad town, there is much related history with the Frisco. Possibly still available from the Phelps County Historical Society, Rolla Mo. "Newburg's First Hundred Years, 1884-1984" by Mary Alice Beemer (deceased) Bixler Printing Company, Rolla, MO, 1984, soft cover, 8.5"x 11', 104 pages, b/w pics The topic is Newburg's first 100 years, but as a true railroad town, there is much related history with the Frisco. Possibly still available from the Phelps County Historical Society, Rolla, M0. Cover pics of both books are posted in Dropbox. K
Don't know if this would be of use: Kansas Depots Kansas State Historical Society by Roger Grant ISBN 0-87726-039-7 1990 Softcover, 117 pages, 6"x9" Frisco content page 84 - 94 basic history with photos at Neodesha, Haverhill, Fall River, Cherryvale, Farlington, Arkansas City, Olathe and Pleasanton (orig and new for both). Fold out of drawing for Depot No.4 BTW Kansas Historical Society does have a couple of other Frisco depots in Kansas in their online collection not in this book.
