The pilot wheels would jump the tracks at this particular spot but my other locos did just fine. When the pilot wheels hit the turnout all hell broke loose. I replaced the pilot with one from my parts box and all is well. Now I will replace the Bachmann open frame motor with a can motor for smoothness. Always something to do!Got close to the edge didn't it?!
I love it! The Wreck of Old 97 hits the Zalma Branch! That's priceless. Glad that nothing was seriously damaged. I chuckled when I saw the title of this thread. I was wondering what was up. Keep up the good work Jim.
Kinda strange she derailed on a trailing point movement. Did the pilot wheels jump the frog? Any issues with the dirt ballast in the way? Trailing derailments are kinda rare.
It musta hit just right. The Chinese Bachmann pilot assembly was junk and maybe outa gage. No worries now.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahhaha! I forgot about the ever loving red headed step child 0-5-0. That's funny right there!
Isn't it? Really impresses me too. Didn't Jim do a build thread on it? Oh, btw, Road Forman of Engines wants to know where you went for you pee test Jim. He's still waiting for your report. LOL...
Thanks, guys. You're all a riot. I'm sure the engineer gave his urine sample right about when his hog hit the ballast. That little 4-4-0 was a blast to modify from it's Bachmann Old Timer origins. Tonight I installed an older can motor and used the tender shell from an old AHM Genoa that I had previously detailed. Now it runs like silk even at v e r y slow speeds and is much quieter than the original Bachmann buzzer slot car motor. I could post pics tomorrow if you want.
If we want??? That's it! You're suspended two days without pay for drinkin' on duty! Of course we want pictures. You should have already been posting up motor swap and tender swap pictures! Also, I looked back on your threads at the build of ol' 97. Can you update the tender trucks to arch bars? May look better than the 1860's beam trucks. Just a thought.
BTW, what did the investigation of the accident turn over concerning the speed at which Ol' 97 went through the junction? From the distance the locomotive went from the frog, and how close she came to going over the edge of the cliff, it looks to me that the engineer may have been a little bit heavy on the throttle for a restricted speed through all switches. Hmmmmm, Mr. Engineer? May wanna be careful before 97 takes a nose dive off the cliff and takes a coupler shank worth of revenue over the side with her. Maybe some edge protection is needed to insure Frisco property???
Hey, can you convert that picture to the old 1920's picture style you did on your iPhone? That would be too cool! I bet even Keith would do a front page headline: "Wreck on the Zalma Branch! Ol' 97 goes over!" LOL...
Jim, I hope you don't mind... I kind of wanted to see it in Black & White and cropped down a bit. Even your derailments look realistic!
She looks perilously close to the edge. Since I do not have complete confidence in my tracklaying ability being flawless, this is why I'm planning my layout with 6" of space between the layout edge and the C/L of the nearest track. Best Regards,
I'm thinking of laying pillows on the floor. Not really but a safety net wouldn't hurt. I sure would hate to see ol' 97 hit the floor!
