What model do you think will become available first. The Athearn Genesis GP15 or the Atlas U30B? My moneys on Atlas
To All: As I mentioned in an earlier post on the U30b thread, those have now gone to TBD status. What I didn't say was possibly why because it would be pure speculation on my part. Earlier this spring, QSI announced a new series of sound decoders they are calling them the Titan series. About that same time almost all manufacturers with the exception of Atlas jumped ship and went to Soundtraxx. This included Walthers Proto 2000 and Intermountain. This has led me to speculate that this may be what is holding up the delivery of these locos but we will never know for sure. http://qsisolutions.com/news/11/qsi-titan-intro-030811.html http://qsisolutions.com/news/11/titan-news-061611.html For that reason I feel that I will be running GP15's on my layout by the end of July, U30's this fall maybe!
As of today, 06/29/11, both Athearn and Horizon Hobbies (their distributor) are showing all 6 SKU's of the Frisco GP15-1 as being IN STOCK. Therefore, this poll has been fun and for what it's worth, those who voted for the GP15-1 won. More importantly, those of us who have GP15-1's on order should be running them on our RR's soon.
Well, Aug. 5 has passed, and now Wholesale Trains' site lists the Atlas U30Bs as "Advance Registration." Does anyone know anything more?
I was at Rick McClellan's layout today and I finally got a look at the GP15-1's, they look and sound amassing. And I spoke with Bob Hoover in person today and he told me the same thing, the U30B's are TBD, but he was going to talk to his Atlas contact about it. Ethan
Ethan brought Train 1313 in to Springfield Yard from the High Line behind GP15-1 #123 and did a nice job. In fact, he did a nice job on all the trains he ran including the local from Ft. Scott to Springfield. Glad you were able to come and hope you enjoyed your time with the Springfield Frisco crew and Bob Hoover.
