I tried to create a table of HO diesels, based on my reading of some of the threads here. I only have a few of these models, and it is by no means exclusive, so feel free to update it.
Frisco Diesel Type|Make|Model|Manufacturer|Color Scheme|Number(s)|Accuracy|Notes| Cab Unit|EMD|F3A|Athearn Genesis|Black and Gold|5010|Good| anti glare green odd| Cab Unit|EMD|F3B|Athearn Genesis|Black and Gold|| Cab Unit|EMD|FP7|Intermountain|Black and Gold|5048|Yellow grabs|| Cab Unit|EMD|F7B|Intermountain|Black and Gold|5126|Has dynamic brakes (!)|| Cab Unit|ALCo|FA1|Proto 2000 (Life-Like)|Black and Gold|5200, 5215| Cab Unit|ALCo|FB1|Proto 2000 (Life-Like)|Black and Gold|5300, 5315| Passenger Power|EMD|E8|Proto 2000 (Life-Like)|Racehorse|2016, 2020, 2022||Middleground renamed after accident Road Power|GE|B30-7|Atlas|Red and White|| Road Power|EMD|SD45|Athearn|Red and White|| Road Switcher|AlCo|RS-1|Atlas|Black and Gold|100, 101|good| Road Switcher|EMD|GP7|Atlas|Black and Gold|500, 502|Not right phase for numbers| Switcher|Baldwin|VO-660|Stewart|Black and Gold|600, 601|Good| needs some details Switcher|Baldwin|VO-1000|Stewart|Black and Gold|213,214, 224|Good|comes with stacks Switcher|EMD|NW2|Broadway Limited|Red and White|||Sound Switcher|Fairbanks-Morse|H10-44|Proto 2000 (Walthers)|Red and White|270||Sound/Silent
What else should we add?
Depending on your accuracy requirements, I would add: AHM GP18 R/W Lionel HO GP9 R/W Mantua F7A R/W Atlas GP7 R/W (early 90's) Athearn GP35, 38-2, 40-2, 50, SD40-2 R/W (not sure about the GP38-2, I'd hafta look thru my boxes). Athearn SW1500 R/W Stewart U25B lo-nose Black MDC/Roundhouse RS2 Black Some of the Athearn would be blue-box, and some RTR. That's a start
Also need to add Proto 2000 EMD "Racehorse" E8 2019 "Cavalcade". Note that P2K E8's 2022 and 2019 are the second release P2K E8's. They are different models than the first P2K release, which were 2016 and 2020. In some ways the second release is a better Frisco model, in some ways it is not. Also need to add the Stewart Baldwin DS-44-1000 switcher, SLSF 238 and one other number. The Athearn "Blue Box" did include a GP38-2, SLSF 671. The SW1500 was SLSF 319. There also are two Atlas releases each - GP38 (636, 638), MP15 (364 + ?), GP38-2 (469 + ?). There also were Stewart F3's in SLSF, A-B-B-A, but I forget the numbers. I sold them as soon as I saw the Genesis units! The P2K FA-FB-FB-FA units also had yellow handrails. There was a Broadway Limited Frisco SW7/SW9 (had features of both!) SLSF 300 and 304. That's all I can recall off the top of my head. Ken
Don't for get the new release from trainman, the GP38-2 has 3 #s 463, 469 and I think 476. The "mandarin orange" color looks just about right on the one I have (#469). The GP15-1 made buy walthers train line a few years ago.
Ok, I can add those... |-|
Frisco Diesel Type|Make|Model|Manufacturer|Color|Number(s)|Accuracy|Notes|Avl Cab Unit|EMD|F3A|Athearn Genesis|B&G|5010|Good| anti glare green odd| Cab Unit|EMD|F3B|Athearn Genesis|B&G|| Cab Unit|EMD|FP7|Intermountain|B&G|5048|Yellow grabs|| Cab Unit|EMD|F7B|Intermountain|B&G|5126|Has dynamic brakes (!)|| Cab Unit|EMD|F7A|Mantua|R&W|||Very Rare '70s Cab Unit|ALCo|FA1|Proto 2000 (Life-Like)|B&G|5200, 5215|Yellow grabs Cab Unit|ALCo|FB1|Proto 2000 (Life-Like)|B&G|5300, 5315|Yellow grabs Cab Unit|EMD|F3A|Stewart|B&G| Cab Unit|EMD|F3B|Stewart|B&G| Passenger Power|EMD|E8|Proto 2000 (Life-Like)|Racehorse|2016, 2020| |First Release Passenger Power|EMD|E8|Proto 2000 (Life-Like)|Racehorse|2019, 2022||2022 lettered as Middleground Road Power|GE|B30-7|Atlas|R&W|| Road Power|GE|U25B|Stewart|Black|||Low Nose Road Power|EMD|SD40-2|Athearn|R&W Road Power|EMD|SD45|Athearn|R&W|| Road Switcher|AlCo|RS-1|Atlas|B&G|100, 101|good| Road Switcher|ALCo|RS-2|MDC/Roundhouse|B&G| Road Switcher|EMD|GP7|Atlas|B&G|500, 502|Not right phase for numbers| Road Switcher|EMD|GP7|Atlas|R&W| Road Switcher|EMD|GP9|Lionel HO| R&W| Road Switcher|EMD|GP18|AHM| R&W||Frisco did not roster Road Switcher|EMD|GP35|Athearn|R&W Road Switcher|EMD|GP38|Atlas|R&W|636, 638| Road Switcher|EMD|GP38-2|Atlas Trainman|R&W|463,469,476| Road Switcher|EMD|GP38-2|Athearn|R&W|671 Road Switcher|EMD|GP40-2|Athearn|R&W Road Switcher|EMD|GP50|Athearn|R&W Road Switcher|EMD|GP15-1|Walthers Trainline|R&W| Switcher|Baldwin|VO-660|Stewart|B&G|600, 601|Good| Needs some details Switcher|Baldwin|VO-1000|Stewart|B&G|213,214, 224|Good|Comes with stacks Switcher|Baldwin|DS-44-1000|Stewart|B&G|238, 240|Good| Switcher|EMD|SW7|Broadway Limited|R&W|300, 304|Phase II, with Mix of Features|Sound Switcher|EMD|SW1500|Athearn|R&W|319 Switcher|EMD|Atlas|MP15|R&W|364 Switcher|F-M|H10-44|Proto 2000 (Walthers)|R&W|270||Sound/Silent Switcher|F-M|H10-44|Walthers (Roco)|R&W||So-so|Mix of H10 and H12 Features
|-| Accuracy requirements? Three foot rule is in effect on my layout. I have half a mind to put Ken's E8B on here. Isn't the GP15-1 being redone? Should we include a column for when the model was made, or if in stock? I'm thinking maybe I should change it to have model and make first. Also, do we need some abbreviations to save space?
Gary - The Broadway Limited EMD switcher is not a NW2. BLI is fairly liberal in what they call their models. It has a body that is mainly SW7 features, not NW2. But, it has the dual vertical sealed beam headlight like the SW9 had. It is numbered for the SW7's - 300 & 304. It has the full front radiator, not the shorter one like the NW2 had. It's mostly a SW7. Ken ps - I still do think you should list the two P2K E8 releases as separate models. There are several differences between the two. I've had a person ask me upon seeing an A-A set I had on display using one of each (2016 & 2019) saying "Why did you make them different?" I didn't, P2K did - pilot, grabs, details, steam generator, etc - all different. Yeah, I know, I'm pretty digital!
I just edited the table--easier than redoing it now. If you're not careful, your E8B will be on here I went back through some of the old threads to get information, but it's easy to get turned around, plus I'm supposed to be working. Maybe some other rainy day.
Walthers did the FM switcher back in R/W back in the 90's. It was not a "Trainline" unit, but rather, came in a long box like the SW1 did. They turn up on eBay from time to time. The GP15-1 is supposed to be coming soon from Athearn/Genesis.
Gary - Thanks. Nice job on the table! Over time, I'm sure we all will be providing information and updates to add to it. I'm not an N-scaler, but I wonder if somebody would be willing to do the same for their gauge? If I get a chance this afternoon, I'll post some pics of my BLI SW7, SLSF 304. It runs so-so, but it looks pretty good if you overlook the incorrect headlight type, and that it is a shade too red. Ken
I am assuming you have only considered models that came painted as Frisco units. It would be nice to see how undecorateds like the Proto 2000 GP7 stack up.
gna asked, "Should we include a column for when the model was made, or if in stock?" That will be useful information. That would help someone determine what was actually available in current retail as opposed to a discontinued item, or one on a limited production run.
Yes, only Frisco painted units. We could make a table with undecs/repaints, possibly with a list of decals, to make Frisco units.
I added a column on the right, "Avl" for available. Lame, I know, but I wasn't sure how much space we have.
Here's another comment from the "nitpicker"! The earlier Frisco freight diesel color was not "black & gold" (B&G) as noted in the table, but was instead "black & yellow" (B&Y). No gold on the freight units. Ken
Ken: Our local footbal team is called the Parsons Vikings and their team colors are Blue and Gold. It looks yellow to me but everytime I try to tell someone it is yellow they try to gore me with the Viking headgear. For the record I agree it is Black and Yellow. ( Now please nobody try to run me over with your old Black and Gold locomotive) Bob Wintle
I thought it was yellow, too, but I thought the "official" color was Dulux Gold. B&Y it is. Is the U25 Black, or Black and Yellow?
