Took the plunge and bought an Atlas Trainman N scale set with the GP15-1 loco. BNSF. Sorry, guys, but at this point, the set is offered only in choice of Borgs. In any event, as pointed out by Bob, the details are not correct for an ex-Frisco unit. However, the overall detail is quite nice, and it appears to be a smooth runner.......certainly better than the Bachmann offerings at the local Hobby Lobby. I DID have to stop by Hobby Lobby and pick up a pair of jeweler's goggles so I could SEE the little critter. It's heck to get old.........
here's what doesn't make since. they do make 2 or 3 road numbers in frisco of there N scale GP15-1, but they don't offer it in a train set.
Not to mention my other fave, the CNW. Of course, both the Frisco and the CNW would have wrong air filters. Methinks it's a conspiracy to take us over to the dark side of the Borg(s) where the sets are concerned
The issue of proper air filters has been cussed and discussed on the Atlas board, and to a lesser extent on Trainboard. One or two of the BN modelers has shown how to add the louvers to get a reasonable-looking diesel for the Big Green Machine (or better yet, Frisco and CNW). I don't believe Atlas will be releasing a "proper" GP15-1 any time soon in N scale. Our only options for N would be to change the details, or live with what we have (and detailing N scale pushes my presbyopic eyes to the limit, even with bifocals). Having a couple of these beasts will allow you to model Central Division freights and swich jobs, on the A&A and Ft. SMith SUbs and in the Ft. Smith and Paris areas.
Hi, Do you guys want something like this but in Frisco? Sorry for the BNSF abomination!!! And yes the longhood isn't quite snugged down right!
Exaxtly! Well, except for the green paint and the Beansniff initials, that's what we're talking about. And unfortunately for us, according to Paul Graf at Atlas, the N scale Trainman GP15-1 will not be offered with louvered air filters.
Yes Atlas will only be making the other version but Mark 4 Design makes the correct long hood which is available from here http://mark4design.com/index.html but you will have to email Mark as the shell isn't currently listed on the website. I used a Mark4Design long hood on my GP15-1 as shown
