Can you solve this mystery? I was driving on the East Broadway or Highway HH that connects Webb City to Carterville heading east. After crossing over the old MoPac (UP) tracks I looked over to my left and saw the remains of a bridge that once spanned over the the MoPac line. Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is finishing cleaning up this area, since it was loaded with lead and zinc mines. They left the bridge supports standing. In the second shot you can see the UP line to the far left. It is angling form the Southwest to the Northeast. So what railroad did these belong too? I was told it may have been for a street car line?
Those were the abutments for the Southwest Missouri Electric, the interurban which served the tri-state area from Carthage-Webb City-Joplin-Galena-Baxter-Picher.
