Lowell has now announced the Texas Special dining car. the first release includes Katy’s “Sam Houston”: https://lowellsmith.net/product/rsm-sam-houston-texas-special-diner/
Lowell has announced two more Texas Special coaches: https://lowellsmith.net/product/texas-special-coach-pair-2/ this time the cars are both Frisco cars, “Olivette” and “Pasadena Hills” Paul
So while talking to Lowell about new announcements ( see http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index....m-railsmith-at-the-national-train-show.14061/ ), I was able to hold in my hands the new Baggage-RPO and Dinning car cars. These were unpainted tooling samples, but they are very nicely done. I look forward to seeing them painted. as discussed before, these are modeled after the Frisco and Katy lightweight cars.
Lowell snuck in another river series car for the Meteor. This time it is Meramec River https://lowellsmith.net/product/frisco-meramec-river-sleeper/
So apparently, this car was actually released at the National Train Show. And I missed it when I was talking to Lowell. I put in my order, but Lowell now lists the cars as sold out.
New arrivals from RailSmith today. The Meteor’s Normandy and the Katy Texas Special RPO Anson B Jones. I also picked up the SP&S version of the car. This was the Katy’s car, and lasted into the BN era.
Lowell has posted two more sleepers for the Texas Special, “Amon B King”, a Katy car, and “Thomas Hart Benton”, a Frisco car. Only available as the pair. https://lowellsmith.net/product/rs-the-texas-special-sleeper-pair/ As with other sleepers, these are on a Pullman 10-6 body.
The dining cars have been shipped by Railsmith First up is the Katy’s “Sam Houston”: and then the same car body decorated as the Frisco’s “Tulsa” Other than the lack of number plates and ownership plates, this seems to accurately match the Texas Special dining cars ( which they were modeled after ). Obviously, that makes the “Tulsa” a stand in. Note the inclusion of the rooftop antenna on “Tulsa”. the prototype did have a rooftop antenna, though of a different design.
don’t expect it from Lowell. He’s creating models for equipment he needs for his n-scale layout. Lowell is an SP&S modeler and needed the RPO and the Diner that SP&S acquired from Katy. If Lowell were an HO modeler, I am sure he would have just bought the brass cars…. We don’t have those in N.
