I happened across an interesting picture tonight in the random media feed. http://frisco.org/shipit/index.php?media/849.2755/ This is in Charlie's album of diesel pictures that aren't in the archive yet. Unfortunately, I haven't found any data on this image. What caught my eye is the plated over gyra light in the nose. I don't recall seeing anything before the checks all of the following: Frisco Paint Frisco Number (not patched) Delivered with Gyra Light Removed Gyra Light Naturally, I dug around for more context on this unit and its unique situation. Here's an archive photo of the unit in June 1980 with gyra light intact http://frisco.org/mainline/wp-conte...-City-Missouri-on-June-3-1980-James-Primm.jpg And another in 1981, still in Frisco paint but patched to a BN number. Gyra light is gone in this photo http://frisco.org/mainline/wp-conte...braska-on-September-11-1981-Jerry-Bosanek.jpg And finally, a photo dated December 1980 ~2 weeks after the merger. Frisco paint, no number patch and no gyra light. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2199842 To conclude this, I'm going to infer from what I learned in the SD45 4 piece window thread: I think this unit had a broken gyra light and went through the shop in November right before the merger. Since the BN hadn't taken over, the number wasn't patched, but the shop knew what was coming so they didn't replace the defective gyra light. Final note, instead of making this thread specifically about #849, I gave it a general title and placed it in the general diesel section. If anyone comes across another unit in this fashion (Frisco number, removed gyra light) please add on to this thread.
