This photo - http://research.archives.gov/description/199880 is labeled as possibly President Truman in Bolivar. I don't think so. But it does have a small depot, and grain elevator in the background.

Anyone have any idea if this photo was even taken on the Frisco?

Bolivar had one of those ugly stucco monster depots. This doesn't look like it was on the Frisco at Bolivar.

    Bob,

Suspect that the photograph was taken along the B&O or C&O Railroads.

These railroads, amoung others, placed the station call symbols on there depots, interlocking towers and other station structures. The end of the depot is clearly marked OB. OB is the station location call symbol.

Station is a place designated in a railroad's timetable. This is not to be confused with a depot structure, sometimes referred to as a "station".

As Don pointed out the depot is not the Frisco's depot in Bolivar, MO. There are a couple of Bolivar, MO depot photos in the following posts http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?711-Bolivar-MO&highlight=bolivar+depot.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

I appreciate the answers so far. I had already figured out that it wasn't at Bolivar, but was interested if it was taken on the Frisco at all.

There are a bunch of photos in the series and many were labeled "possibly Bolivar", but we pretty much realize that the National Archives photo captions are wrong.

There a photo in the series of the John E Smiths Hatchery, but then I got no idea where it was located. Somewhere near the statue of Simon Bolivar is all I know.

That photo was one of a series of pictures taken when Truman, his wife, Bess, and the South American president and his wife (I forget which nation??) were on their way to Bolivar to dedicate the statue of the South American liberator Simon Bolivar. There were several pictures taken at Bolivar and at Springfield during that trip.

I was with my parents at the Springfield depot that day (July 5th, 1948) and it was quite an event.

The South American leader accompanying Truman probably was from Bolivia.

Bolivia is named for Simon Bolivar, but it's only one of the six nations liberated by Bolivar. Others were Venezuela, Columbia, Panama, Ecuador and Peru.

The South American leader was President Romulo Gallegos of Venezuela.
