SLSF 2001 2-8-8-2 -1910 Seven 2-8-8-2 Mallet Articulateds were purchased from American Locomotive Works in 1910 and were the largest in the world when first purchased. However, according to various publications they proved unsatisfactory for the intended purposes and were relegated to mine runs in the Alabama coalfields west of Birmingham.
