After sitting on the shelve for eight years I finally built one of these, well almost. In this age of open the box and put it on the track I forgot how much fun it is to build something. Took two weeks off and on. If I did a second one would do some things in a different order. I had to cave in on the ladders and used a freight car ladder and super glued the paper thin vertical braces to it to give it some support, I quickly broke the two extra ones and knew I was in trouble. A couple of questions to get this to completion.

I can't find any brake wheels, so I guess it did not come with any. What should I use? Secondly, the decals are now ten years old or so. Should I spray them with something before trying to use them so they don't come apart?

John, I've had good luck spraying the decal sheet with something like Testors gloss coat. Just a nice even coat. Larry

Kadee makes a variety of brakewheels.

They are very well executed with great detail. I've found it's a good idea to have a few packages of their brakewheels both to replace lost parts and to upgrade old models.

Also, Microscale liquid decal film can be brushed on the old decals to give them a more robust carrier film so they dont come apart.

  5. Krylon matte finish works well too for saving old decals.
