    Hello,

I have a photograph of an unknown caboose.

It is located along 62 Highway going into Eureka Springs, AR.

Can anyone help with telling me what this unknown caboose is?

    Bay window caboose.

Never seen one with this window arrangement though.

  3. This is not a Frisco caboose.

It is Texas, Oklahoma and Eastern (TO&E) caboose TO&E 87.

The car also ran on its Weyerhaeuser owned sister line the De Queen and Eastern (DQ&E) Railroad.

    Ship it on the Frisco!

    Thanks Murphy,

How did you know so much about this caboose?

If you look at the photographs you will notice that there is an deck on the front that is not covered.

I drove by this caboose yesterday and I now notice that there is an roof over the deck part. I will try to post pictures of it.

I wish I had the money to buy it when it was up for sale, but I did not have the money to buy this caboose.

But still it is not cool to do something like that.

  5. The reason I knew about the caboose is because of a trip I made two years back to Camden, AR.

On the way we passed over the Texas, Oklahoma and Eastern (TO&E). I got home and wanted to research this line and found out about this car and another that exists.

Wish it still had it wheels and could run.

    Ship it on the Frisco!

    Murphy,

This caboose still has its wheels, couplers and it is sitting on a pieces of track on ties.

So maybe it can still run.

It appears to be a former Baltimore and Ohio (B&O) caboose.

Edit 5/13/2024: The caboose was built by the International Car Company (ICC) of Kenton, OH.

The car was built for the Baltimore and Ohio (B&O) Railroad as one of their I-18 class of cabooses. These were the first class of cabooses not built by the railroad. They were also the railroad's first all welded construction cars. The 46 cabooses were delivered in 1965-1966.

Most of the cabooses went through an upgrade program in the B&O DeBois, PA shops during 1973-1974. The cars received several paint schemes during their careers. Delivered in a basic blue scheme, several were repainted in the mid 1970s in various colors with bold safety slogans.

Later, after the merger creating the Chessie System many received yellow, maroon and blue paint. These included the Chessie System cat herald. Under Chassie ownership the cars were changed to class C-24. After the merger of the Chessey System with the Seaboard System that created CSX the remaining cars received yet another paint and lettering change.

Amended post to include additional information about the cabooses.
