Meramec River Crossing - Bridge 18.9 - Ten Brook, MO, MP 20.8 - St. Louis Subdivision

Meramec River bridge on the River Division. The Meramec divides St. Louis County and Jefferson County. This pic is looking North.

The Mississippi is about 5 miles Southeast of here, so flooding is always a problem, which is why so many tiers are built leading up to the bridge.

Edit 2/2/2024 - Bridge steel is comprised of three 150'-0" through pin connected trusses (TPCT), one 22'-0" I-beams span, seventeen 27'-0" I-beam spans and six 27'6" I-beams spans. The steel spans total 1,096'-0".

The through trusses were erected in 1902. As part of a multi year upgrade to the structure, the 22'-0" section was fabricated and erected in 1955, the 27' sections were fabricated in 1955 and erected in 1956 and the 27'-6" sections were fabricated and erected in 1956.

Added bridge details narrative, number, station, mile post and subdivision.

Meramec River Crossing - Bridge 18.9 - Ten Brook, MO, MP 20.8 - St. Louis Subdivision

Aerial view of the River Division bridge over the Meramec River at the St. Louis County Line. This is the same bridge I posted a few pictures of earlier.

The image is from the USGS site, and I posted it to show a better view of the length of the bridge.

Edit 1/31/2024: Added bridge number, location, mile post and subdivision. The roadway on the river's south bank that extends under the south bridge approach is Hollywood Beach Road, Arnold, MO. It can be reached in Arnold City Park.

Arnold City Park is located at 2400 Bradley Beach Road, Arnold, MO 63010. The park entrance and intersection of Hollywood Beach Road is just off the intersection Jeffco Road and Bradley Breach Road.

New Baumgartner Road crosses over the railroad 588' to the north Meramec River approach. It affords a view down the length of the bridge from the north. The bridge address is 4398 New Baumgartner Road, St. Louis, MO 63129-2816.

The River Division extends southeast toward Memphis Tennessee. It included the St. Louis Subdivision and The Chaffee Subdivisions.

The River Division crosses the Meramec close to Arnold, MO or as it's called on the Frisco, Ten Brook, MP 20.8.

Long trestles spanning the flood plain approach the bridge from either side. Once timber, they are now concrete.

For a view of this area during the steam era, check out Joe Collias' book Frisco Power, pages 46 and 47.

Photographs taken July 30 and October 21, 2006.

The Frisco crossed the Meramec River seven times in total. On the Rolla Subdivision it cross the river 4 times, on the Salem Branch 2 times and on the St. Louis Subdivision 1 time. Each crossing involves a substantial structure owing the the potential flood stage power of the Meramec.

This is 1 of 1 bridges across the river on the St. Louis Subdivision.

Added bridge number, location, mile post and subdivision.
