Out of all the diesels the Frisco did not stable which TWO would you have liked them to own? I thought long and hard on this one so I decided not to limit the answer to one but two...in order If the model was produced before repainting please specify the paint sheme EMD F or FP45 GE C30-7
My personal choices would be the GP30 and GP20. Have the GP30 in O/W, and the GP20 in B/Y with full striping.
Great question! My answers: #1 - ALCo PA1 in the "Racehorse" paint scheme. Would that be good looking or what? SLSF 2050 and up??? #2 - EMD E8B units to supplement the E7A/E8A sets. SLSF 2100 and up? Ken
CF7 obviously in Red and White because of date, although it would have looked grooooovy in Black and Yellow too. C420 in either scheme.
Almost any Alco would be fine. But I do like B/Y paint better. Ship it on the Frisco!!! Murphy Millican
How about a couple of early streamliners? 1. Alco DL-109 2. Baldwin Centipede I wonder how the "Racehorse" scheme would have looked on them. Rich
Rich - Good call on the DL109. I'd bet it would look pretty nice in the "Racehorse" scheme. But, a Baldwin Centipede ..... ..... I'm not sure even dressing it up in the Racehorse colors would make it look good. Ken
Ken, you're probably right that even the race horse scheme wouldn't make those "babyface" Baldwins look good, so let's just say that my choice is "interesting"... I guess the appeal for me is all those wheels along the entire length of the unit. I understand that they visited St. Louis Union Station during thier short life. Rich
Had to take a little time to think this one out. Given two choice, I will go with and old and a new. Old, considering the number of GP7 the railroad had I think a program similar to the SF of chopping the noises of the 7's and rebuilding them for use in local service would have been interesting. With the ability of the shop forces I'm sure they could have pulled it off. New, it seemed like in the latter years the railroad had an affinity for 4 axle power pulling it hottest trains in groups of three and four. With that in mind I think a GP60m ABBA lashup heading up the 33 west out of Lindenwood in O&W would be something to see. Brad
Although a great choice for their pulling ability, those Baldwin Centipedes would be a maintenance nightmare, they would look great in either livery though.
Here's one that will send folks around the bend -- SD70MAC in the late b&y F-unit scheme that had the yellow on the nose and cab sides and black the rest of the way back. The paint scheme would fit perfectly on today's wide-cab designs, and the '70MAC makes a pretty impressive sound when opened wide. No, Don, it doesn't come close to what 1522 sounded like accelerating away from the meet with the coal train at Elsberry (you had her right down in the corner starting, didn't you?) but what do you want in the 21st century??? Gordon
Sure would be fun to hear the flange squeal a Baldwin Centipede would likely put out on the Frisco Eastern Division! Iron Hill, Rolla Hill, or Dixon Hill alone would be a hoot! Ken
