I found this article while researching Frisco train wrecks. It is said to be the worst recorded wreck ever of a Frisco passenger train meeting a troop train out of Fort Sill, OK near the town of Kelleyville, OK. This is the attachment. You will need MS Word to read it. View attachment Daily Oklahoman Worst Frisco Train Wreck Ever.doc Warning the article is very descriptive! Edit 1/23/2024: The bridge at Pole Cat Creek is MP 447.8. There is also a bridge at Little Pole Creek at MP 446.9. MKD
There are photos in the Sapulpa Historical Museum of this wreck and some others in the area. It was horrible indeed.
The below web site has been floating around for sometime. If it has been posted here then my pardons. But it has a detailed study of the Kellyville wreck plus several other Frisco wrecks. http://mysite.du.edu/~jcalvert/railway/trainord.htm#Kell It may take a while to download but worth waiting for. Apparently this was a study conducted of failures using train order and time table operations. It is good reading for those that like to operate using timetable/train order methods. Jerome
This was a really sad story. Those poor people. I remember having it drilled into my head that railroad rules were written in blood. Safety rules were covered and reviewed over and over and over again during my time in rail service. I as always told, anyone who doesn't believe it, needs to read this. It hits the heart with a pretty good thump.
