The Winslow Tunnel was completed in 1882. In 1967-1969 Morrison-Knudsen Co., Inc. , Inc completed a project to widen the 1,700 foot tunnel to 18 feet (formerly 14 feet) and increase the height from 19 feet to 24 feet.During the renovation the date stone for the north end was destroyed . A Frisco employee took the south end date stone home. It was then given to the defunct Frisco Museum in Springfield, MO.
On November 14, 2007 a truck from the A & M Railroad, owner of the Fort Smith subdivison, went to Springfield and brought the date stone back to Winslow. It is located in a replica pavillon near the tracks in downtown Winslow..

One thing is for sure, the A&M does try to keep a positive relationship with the cities/towns they serve. And running historic equipment just keeps things interesting.
