How long did the 1962 paint scheme last on new Atlas Covered Hoppers Would the 1962 scheme ("Ship it on the Frisco") on the soon to be released cylindrical covered hoppers have lasted until the late seventies? I model 1978 and really like the scheme on the upcoming Atlas covered hoppers but I can't find any photos of 81008 or 81019 in the seventies (or sixties for that matter).
Chuck, Those Cylindrical hopppers lasted until the end of Frisco in 1980 (not the full 25 cars due to wrecks). They were aluminium built and therefore the car body was not painted, however the aluminium oxidized quickly and therefore looks like a dull gray colour. Regards, Nick Molo
