What diesels would you like to see in Frisco colors?

Recent years have been good to us Frisco modelers with a number of ready-to-run models that have come on the marketplace in Frisco paint schemes, albeit with varying degrees of accuracy. Recent examples include Atlas's GP7 with the full yellow stripe treatment, the B30-7 and the MP15DC (all excellent); Broadway Limited's SW7 (good, but I would have prefered a black and yellow version); and Intermountain's FP7 and F7B (as noted elsewhere, they missed the mark). With Atlas's announcement that will release an RS1 with a black and yellow half-stripe version, another niche in the representation of a Frisco diesel roster will be filled.
So what diesel, as yet unreleased, would you like to see show up in a Frisco paint scheme? My choice would be an SD45. Kato and Proto 2000 have come out with SD45s in the past but never in SLSF orange and white (I don't count the Athearn blue box wide hood version). Since the Frisco had a sizeable chunk of the production run of these locomotives (49 out of 1260) I'm mildly surprised that no one has come out with one yet.

Some S2 or S4 would be good... Maybe even GP15-1 other than the Walthers trainman

A GP 35 in black yellow scheme with the air tanks mounted on the roof. I saw brass imports on these, but I would like to see a plastic version manufactured!

How about a high nose U-25B (not brass) with correct steps for the early version?

Maybe the 2-8-8-2 mallet, though would be early for my era(transition)--I'd still prob. get one. Would also like updated passenger E8's--I've got two P2K's(Citation, Middleground) but an updated DCC ready version would be nice--as you can tell, haven't converted my P2K's yet.

What Steam would you like to see?

We been discussing what diesels we would like to see, but I'm wondering with all the new steam coming out what locomotives would everyone like to see? Since most of the common series of locomotives have been run in brass, I'm thinking maybe a 4-6-4 hudson.

I think it's anti-glare green paint. It looks gray in my "Frisco in Color" book, but many railroads painted the top of the nose green in the early days of cab units.

A scale-width-hood U30B would be nice (not the U28/U30B model LifeLike has now). Frisco, IIRC, had a sizeable amount of U30Bs in their fleet..........

Ditto that on the Hudsons, Brad. Alas, brass is a bit beyond my budget. Spectrum et. al. are more in line but I have yet to see a non-brass model that does not require a significant amount of kitbashing.

Hence, I figure I'm either destined for a lot of kitbashing, or move my modeling era up by 9 years or so, and the latter's not really an option. 8^)

    Chris,
Here's my two cents with regard to my Frisco steam models wish list.

With regard to brass, Frisco modelers have been treated relatively well. Although some might argue with that claim based on the quality of some of the models. Main line freight power has been covered with brass models of the 4000, 4200, 4300, 4400, and 4500 class locomotives. Secondary freight power has been modeled with the 1613 class and 1306 class locomotives. Passenger power has been represented with 182 class, 1015 class, and 1500 class engines.

In the plastic domain, the 1613 class, 3800 class, and 4000 class locomotives have been available.

For my money, I'd love to see a ten wheeler modeled. Perhaps one of the ALCO engines of the 629-633 group or the 727-741 group. Both had the canted steam chests. They'd be right at home on a Frisco branch line.
I'd also like to see the 2001 class locomotive modeled; its truly a Frisco anomaly.

I'd like to see any of Frisco's diesels come from the model manufacturer with the gyra-lite in the nose. I noticed Athearn is advertising an SP geep with a nose light.

I'll wager sooner or later Atlas will do the S2 in SLSF colors. They seem to be on a run on Frisco, among others.

My preference - Athearn Genesis F7A and F7B in Frisco yellow and black - to go along with those beautiful Genesis F3's.

I also second the suggestion of a well done Frisco SD45.

    All in HO of course!

It was indeed olive-green anti-glare paint, factory applied, to the F3's, F7's and FA-1's.

Hard to tell, but the shade of green used by P2K on the ALCo FA-1's looks about right to me - if perhaps a bit too bright and light. On th emodels I've painted, I used US Army olive-green, and was happy with the look. One of the few things wrong with the Athearn Genesis F3's is the green is way too light. InterMountain, of course, just ignored the green anti-glare panel on the recent Frisco FP7 model.

The Frisco E-units did not have an anti-glare panel.

Well put. The HO-Scale Chaffee roundhouse would love to have a few of these. These are on my wish list - been wondering what it would take to do a Frankenstein job.

Perhaps time for a new thread...

    Best Regards,

I would definitely like to see an SD45 with the correct L shaped engineers window along with a U30B model.

Per a different thread, more switchers in Black/Gold. NW2, SW7, SW1500, S2, H10/12-44, to go with the Stewart Baldwins.
