Folks, Does anyone have good, close-up photographs of a waybill box, either attached to or detached from a depot? In lieu of pictures, something with general dimensions or a Bridge and Building (B&B) plan would satisfy my curiosity. However, it seems like the type of thing that would have simply been constructed with whatever materials were available. Best Regards,
Here is photo of the Ash Grove, MO depot. You can see the waybill box just to the left of the operators bay, right of the coal bin and window. The Frisco boxes are very similar to the one that Keith posted except they are taller.
Wow... memory file jog! I remember such a box at the Van Buren depot back in my earlier years around the Frisco. Depot agent "Buddy" Stedman was the last agent there. I recall him putting waybills into and taking them out of the said box. We had become acquainted and I used to stop by and hang out with him. We're both terrible fisherman, by the way. Never even entered my mind to take a picture of the box, or the interior of the depot, or even Buddy. I was in my early 20s, 21-22, and was a newly wed. Youth can be so misspent. Andre
Thanks, guys. I have a Frisco switch lock and key and am thinking that my initial operating sessions for Stage 1 of our layout, Olathe, KS, might use a night trick at first. My timetable research shows Olathe as a day telegraph office only. I envision the crews having their brass key with which they can obtain their switch lists and instructions that the agent has previously left for them in the waybill box. Best Regards,
