I think the Frisco may have purchased the cars.

I purchased a slide of SLSF 109901 (Reportedly in Springfield durring October,1979) which clearly shows a re-stencled ART car (now that I've seen the original...).
I'm attaching a scan of the slide to this post.

There are also several photos on Mike Condren's website showing ART cars in the yard at Springfield.... I want to say I have seen at least one other photo of an SLSF marked ice refer with the "ICE SERVICE ONLY" wording on it.

One more thought on the subject, some where back their the BMWE, got the railroads to agree to furnish ice for the cooling of drinking water, I would think a last minute decision was to obtain these cars or buy them to comply with the agreement otherwise the rail lines would have not went to the trouble of these MOW cars. They were a lot of trouble, to go in and chip ice off the blocks, for all the coolers on the rail gangs prior to work time. The fuel truck driver got OT for this work. Then he got OT to fuel all the machines in the evening. He was pretty high paid, generally would get paid 12 or so hours a day.

Thanks everyone for the input and comments all little nuggets of information.
    A question.

How did they mount the MoW equipment to the flats? Did they have rails mounted on the flats and tie them down, or just sit the equipment on the wood decks, and tie them down?.

Note the rail on the deck.

Thats the right kind of car, the rail looks good, not sure what was loaded on it though. I can't get a good enough look at the items on the top of the rail. Nice photo.

    Well,
I been busy on some MofW equipment. I built some of this maybe 20 years ago sold it to a friend, and now it found its way home again. Got some of it in an estate deal, and built another complete set from a kit I got 10 years ago. Wish I could find the other speeder.
Now I don't know how many of you have built these kits but if you have you have my respect as well as sympathy. The spike puller were a special challenge for me.
Its interesting how much changed on the kits over the years too. I modified one of the tie shears, to try and reflect the one in the photos Karl had posted.
Got some decals painted and weathered. There is something just a little different on every one of these. Those hydraulic hoses will drive you nuts, and you shouldn't put them on till the equipment is painted.
Now I gotta get those flat cars done up and get this stuff loaded. That Bill Jackson is expecting some ties to be replaced on this outfit before he takes a track out of service :D:D|-|
    Thanks for Looking:)

    Anyway Thanks for looking

Thats a real nice touch, adding the edges to look like the paint is worn off. Very realistic. All of them are very nice. I'm real glad you do this work and are on the site. Here is a couple of droolers, might think about these half cars.

Thanks William your A good man.

Think I may be selling some of this MW stuff havent made my mind up yet how much of what though. I have 3 shears 3 cranes and found the third speeder last night.
A question for you or anyone that can answer, What kind of Regulator and Tamper did the Frisco use in it later years? Here is a link to Custom Finishing Models site for MW stuff.

    http://www.customfinishingmodels.com/Maintenance.pdf

I might try building one if the right machines can be had.

7027 Tamper, 7052 Regulator. I will take dibs on a shear and tie crane if you decide on them.
The Tamper would have the shadow board, lining and levering lights removed.
I used to get to go to the national equipment show. Every 4 years, they had a really big blow out. The venders spared no expense, as this was the best time, to show their equipment off, for big buy's from the rail lines.
After we merged with BN, the equipment dollars really sky rocketed.
Knox Kershaw, was the son, who got the business from his dad. Knox, dressed in shall we say bright, flambouant, bow tie, Alligator shoes, you get the message. Unusual at the time.
The hylight, of the show was when DD Cantrel, passed by Knox's booth, Darrel, would critize his equipment, so badly that Knox would cry, If you knew Darrel, it was easy for him, Knox could say nothing, Darrel had the purse and the contacts.
After about three day's of that, Knox was nearly in break down. Threaten him. tell him, he would see him broke. Just terrible, stuff
Right before Darrel left the show, he turned in a order, and said "pretty good stuff Knox" and off he went.
Biggest sale of the year. I got on the recieving end several times, nearly wants to make you throw up.
Good thing he didn't mean it, he didn't fire anyone, in those day's
The next manager fired me in less than two months. Back in that time, you was fired one day, hired back out three months later. The business, was scaring, you to tears. All was right with the railroad.

    OK William
The shear and tie crane are yours if you want them. But I have no idea what they are worth. All I can find are the kits nothing built or detailed or even decaled to compare them to. PM me maybe we can work something out. Gotts figure out how to ship them and keep them in one piece too, the crane wont be an issue but that shear, has a lot of parts that are kinda delicate.
Here is a pic of the 2.

I came across this old photo of a distant relative on a Frisco motorcar from the Chadwick, MO area.

What a neat modeling thought a "a headless motorcar men"

Actually its a young boy sitting on the motorcar. I figured since I didn't know who it was, it would be better to err on the side of caution and blank out the face. With today's social media, there's no telling where this photo could end up, and you know how relatives can be.

The Funaro and Camerlengo Magnolia tank car works up rather nicely as a MOW water car don't you think?

I'd say!! That looks great. Nice details on it as well. I have never tried one of those kits. You have any build photos?
    Thanks for showing us.

The kit is resin which means a lot of clean-up and the instructions leave a lot to be desired but the ends justify the means. Don't waste your time with Walthers as it seems to be permantly out of stock. I bought mine from Des Plaines Hobby Shop. They carry the whole F and C line and they have a nice web site. Larry
