I have no idea where to post this since the update.

When was the last run of trains 309-310?

At times the train was numbered 303-304; 309-304; 304-310 or variations.

This was the Meteor connection from Monett to Wichita (via Cartage, Joplin, etc.)

    Thanks, Tom

    Tom,

Not too sure of the exact date, but it was my understanding from one of the old engineers that it was in 1963.

I remember that the museum in Fredonia had a photo of the last train in their collection and it was from the newspaper in Neodesha.

They may have it on file.

    I'm thinking more like 1960.

I could be wrong, but I think it went out about the time Trains No 517-518, "The Black Gold", the Tulsa to Dallas train was taken off.

I'll have a look at some timetables.

I've done some research and answered my own questions in this thread.

Trains No 309-310, "The Meteor", Monett-Wichita connection was discontinued October 16. 1960.

Trains No 517-518, "The Black Gold", was discontinued January 19, 1960.

A nice color photo of this train making a station stop at Augusta, Kansas, turned up in the batch of slides I am working with for Frisco in Color Vol. II.

Up front is E7A (EA&) SLSF 2000, Fair Play, and parked at the depot is a "delightful, de-lovely" 1957 DeSoto. Does it get any better?
