This is way too cool not to share. I know it is not Frisco, but check out this 1898 movie of a SP train, with SA&AP cars in it, coming out of a tunnel, double headed, with brakemen on the roofs, and a pusher at the end. Totally awesome! March 10, 1898 This film was shot directly by Thomas Edison. All rights reserved to him, with allowances to share.
Wow. No comments? I'm surprised. It's not every day that you get to see a film from 1898, let alone of a real train.
That's really interesting. I've heard of the rare occasion on railroads doing double header with steam, or a DPU in the mountains (The santa fe doing this with 2-10-0's in California is what gave us the 2-10-2 if my facts are right) but double header with a DPU in steam? WOW. And why did Thomas Edison pic that spot of all places to film? Ethan EDIT Photo bucket probably requires flash. That is one thing I hate about apple is they still continue to not allow flash on Iphones and Ipads.
OK .. Maybe my eyes are getting old, but I only saw one SA&AP car? Mainly just SP, CP, NP, and T&NO - plus one other that I could not make out. Your correct - Totally Awesome!
Look at the choking smoke pouring out of the bore! Would that sound recording had been available, too!
