Ken, Mixed locals No 58 and No 59 hauled chicks from suppliers in the area around Clinton, MO. Please see the following posts. http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?t=2347 and http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?t=2186 There are probably other references as well. Paul
Several of the Frisco Public Time Tables (PTTs) carried this slightly unusual footnote: From the October 1965 PTT, Table 10, Reference Note 1: Trains 58 and 59 will operate daily from February 15 to July 15, and daily except Sunday for the balance of the year. That sort of schedule seems odd, but the chick season runs from January to August. It peaks during April and May with nearly 150,000 chicks being shipped daily.
For all of you devoted Ozark mountain Daredevils (OMD) fans, would the so called Clinton "Chicken Train" have been Steve Cash's inspiration for the song, same name, off their debut and 1973 release, "The Ozark Mountain Daredevils"? I have read Supe Granda's book It Shined and there is no mention of this but who knows. Jeff Cooney Lindsay, TX
