    Hi Guys,

Did Frisco have any black and yellow U-Boats.

I have looked around but have not seen any.

    Thanks,

The GE U25Bs SLSF 800-815 were delivered in black and yellow.

See photograph of black and yellow SLSF 815 in Marre and Harper's Frisco Diesel Power page 134.

Unit SLSF 816 was delivered about two years after SLSF 815 after they started painting in the Mandarin orange and white.

I especially liked the 800-807 high-nose U25Bs in the black and yellow.

Locomotives SLSF 800-831 were model U25B.

Locomotives SLSF 832-862 were model U30B.

Locomotives SLSF 863-870 were model B30-7.

So my U30B would have to be Mandarin orange and white to be prototypical?

That is why the hobby is so much fun, mine will be black and yellow.

    Thanks Tom!

Can anyone on the forum identify for sure which U30B's did not receive the nose gyralites when delivered?

If I wanted to guess I could draw the line between SLSF 843 and SLSF 844.

My reasoning would be the 4 year gap between deliveries of these two units, but I need to make sure.

    Thanks in advance,

    Bob,

I just looked at a bunch of SLSF U30B pictures and I believe you are correct.

The U30Bs SLSF 843 and earlier were without a nose gyralite, while SLSF 844 and up all had nose gyralites.

The four year gap between purchase groups makes sense as the reason why the equipment differed.

    Ken and All:

I just looked back at my notes in regards to the Atlas project and realized that the addition of the nose gyralite must have occurred with the first purchase of Phase II units which is what Atlas is producing.

My notes specifically say that I requested units numbered between SLSF 846 and SLSF 862 so we should be OK in that regard.

Honestly, I got caught off guard for a moment as I did not realize the Phase I units did not have them.
