    John,

I have not been able to locate a photograph of SLSF 5005, SLSF 75, in the abbreviated black and yellow bow wake only scheme.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

    Thank You Mark!

I am going to paint them both in the simplified scheme anyway.

If there is no evidence of it then I cannot be wrong! LOL!

Went through all my F unit pictures looking for either F9A SLSF 5005 or SLSF 75.

Either found it already in Mandarin orange & white as SLSF 75, which dates it past the 1968 renumber, or in full black with yellow side stripes with no date. Here is that picture.

    5005.JPG

According to the ladder grabs added the engineer's side between the number board and door climbing rails, and the eyebrows grabs, those features date the above photograph between about 1959 to early 1960s.

The paint is in very good shape, so I would venture to speculate F9A SLSF 5005 kept its full stripe scheme up to being repainted Mandarin orange & white. No simplified cigar band scheme.

However, that is just my speculation going by the above photograph.

    Who knows?

It could have been the Frisco decided to apply the cigar band scheme to it before the decision to put it in Mandarin orange and white.

    John,

Recommend painting locomotives in known paint schemes. The contrast of similar model locomotives, F9Am, in different schemes adds visual interest.

    In addition to contrasting paint schemes, consider similar but contrasting locomotive model units. If you desire a couple of abbreviated bow wake units, consider the following options - F3A SLSF 5012 / 64, F7A SLSF 5018 / 18, SLSF 5023 / 23, SLSF 5032 / 32 or FP7A SLSF 5041 / 41, SLSF 5043 / 43, SLSF 5044, SLSF 5045 / 45, SLSF 5049 / 49.

Another option are the units in the abbreviated bow wake with black only outline coonskin nose heralds including units - F7A SLSF 5038 / 38 or FP7A SLSF 5042 / 42, SLSF 5047 / 47.

There are multiple options you can select to showcase variety in paint schemes and locomotive model types. Individual locomotives can further enhance the paint scheme contrasts by altering specific locomotive details like nose grab irons, spark arresters, rotary beacons, horns, radio antenna, etc.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

    Mark,

    Here is the situation.

I was given new 2 F7A units undecorated, dual headlights, dynamic brake, without steam generator made by Stewart.

    I plan on numbering them SLSF 5005 (75) and SLSF 5007 (77).

Painting one with the bow wake and the other with dual stripes and all the details would make an interesting showcase.

    I like it John.

Your railroad. Rule 1 is in effect, also 1.1, 1.2.

Are you gonna mask the "bow wake/wave", otherwise known as the nose?

Or have you found decals (I hope)?

I enjoy seeing your modeling efforts, always first class stuff.

It is okay not to hamstring yourself, with the hand wringing, and emotional deluge of complete compliance of prototype modeling.

    Please carry on Sir.

    Tom,

Thanks for the encouragement. I kind of wished I did not take these of the guy's generosity, the price was right (FREE). They were test run only.

Yes, I do have decals and have Oddball's nose decals in which I have made a mask from illustration board. I have some detail parts and need to acquire others.

This is one of the aspects of modeling I cringe on, to find detail parts. There is no one stop shop around here anyway. Have to surf the web site of Big Box hobby supply stores.

You can see the scenario here, out of stock can get one here and another one there shipping cost for a detail part you can fit in the palm of your hand will cost more than the part itself. LOL!

Anyway it is what it is.

Merry Christmas to you and all on Frisco.org
