Does anyone know if all the former SLSF EMD SW1500s are still in active service on the BNSF?

All made it into the BN, and all of which then made it into the BNSF.

    Darn fine locomotives!

    Ken,

Back in 2003, I attended the National Academy of Railroad Sciences at the Johnson County Community College (JoCoCoCo).

This school is run by the BNSF. In their training yard, which is called Chigger Yard, they have an SW1500 which is an old Frisco unit repainted for BNSF. I do not remember the number on it but it is equipped for remote control and was a fun engine to run.

I remember being in the cab and there were still some Frisco books, and some Frisco stenciling. I asked one of the instructors who happened to be the Terminal Superintendent, her name is Grace Grabofski, and she confirmed that it was an old Frisco unit.

Also there are 2 old Frisco boxcars sitting in Chigger Yard that I was honored to have had the opportunity to train with. I thought it pretty neat to have received my associates degree in railroad operations using real live equipment from our favorite railroad!

    I hope this helps.

    Will! :) :)

    Chigger Yard!

Good name for any facility along the Frisco in or close to Missouri.

I will never forget the SLSF 1522 trip down to Newburg/Bundy Jct. during the NRHS Convention here in St Louis in the summer, 1990. Beautiful day for a train ride, about 18-20 cars, all full.

Frisco 1522 was in her full glory. We stopped off somewhere below Sullivan, I think, for a photograph run-by. Everybody piled out and jumped in the weeds to get a good shot of SLSF 1522 steaming by.

I looked at the weeds and thought "No, I'll stay on the train", as my considerable prior Missouri Ozarks experience told me the weeds were full of Missouri's finest breed of chiggers. That afternoon on the return trip, and later that evening at the convention banquet, there was some major league scratching, itching and bitching going on by most of the NRHS faithful! :)

    A heads up.

Several members on the "Diesel List" yesterday and today were talking about the newly released HO Athearn EMD SW1500 model.

They were heavy on the praise "best Athearn model yet".

I hope some day they see fit to do this in SLSF colors.

Proper shade of Mandarin orange and white of course!
