E7A (EA7) SLSF 2001 being rebuilt at West Springfield into an E8A "lookalike" sometime in 1950. "Dan Patch" racehorse scheme, converted from original E7A (EA7) scheme.
E7A (EA7) SLSF 2001 - Train No 3 - The Will Rogers - St. Louis Union Station - 1960 Neat picture on eBay of the nose of E7A (EA7) SLSF 2001 sitting under the shed at St. Louis Union Station waiting to take out Frisco train No 3, the Will Rogers, in the spring of 1960. Notice the dark blue coonskin on the nose of 2001. Wish we could get that HO decal somewhere! E7A (EA7) SLSF 2001 - Train No 3 The Will Rogers - St. James, MO, MP 100.4 - Rolla Subdivision E7A (EA7) SLSF 2001 at St. James, MO. Unsure which train it is heading up. The Will Rogers? Photo from collection of the James Memorial Library. Used with permission. Pat Moreland, Union, MO
Likely it is the Will Rogers. I am not aware of the geography at St. James. What direction is the train headed? Also the Will Rogers was a night train until 1956. I presume this is after? Judging from the shadows, I would say it is heading west. Tom
I believe it's heading west, judging by the position of the station in the photograph. It is still wearing gold and white stripes, so I would guess this was taken prior to 1960. Thanks for the information on the Will Rogers. Did not know that it was once a night train. Pat Moreland, Union, MO
For sure heading west. The St James depot is still there. It is on the I-44 side of the tracks. I-44, still U.S. 66 then likely, is a mile or so behind the depot. Train has to be No 3, the Will Rogers, since it has stopped at St. James. Number 9, The Meteor, would normally not stop at St. James, and I cannot see any red and silver lightweights back in the distance. Could be dated in the early 1960s also, as some of the E7As (EA7) were not repainted until then. I recall seeing E7A (EA7) SLSF 2000 up close in Rolla around 1962-1963 on No 3. It really looked ragged in its well worn red/gold/white paint scheme with an almost totally worn and faded blue coonskin emblem on the nose. Ken
