Attached are some of the photos I took in May of 2016. Included are the north railroad flood gates for protection of the downtown area from Mississippi River flooding.
Neat photos Keith. Brings back good ol' memories of my college days. Judging by the level of the creek, the sandbags next to the gate, the greenness of the grass and lack of a recent water mark on the wall, I'm guessing they were preparing for high water? Best Regards,
The normal channel depth at Cape Girardeau is around 14 or so feet. I think they close the gates at 38 feet. This past January the river reached 49-3/4 feet, or about 3 feet from the top of the leave wall. GS
