The 970-989 class 2-8-0's were built Dec. 1906 - Jan 1907 by BLW. Engines 970, 979, 989, 984, 988, and 981 were converted to burn oil. During April 1916 and December 1916, 971-975, 977-978, 982-983, and 985 were sold to the NOT&M. The 1914-1916 period was a time of mass extinction on the Frisco; it was during time when the Frisco sold and scrapped many of its older or smaller power. The remaining locomotives of this class lasted until the steam - diesel transition period.
