Here are a few 3 bay FRISCO covered hoppers that I have managed to catch on film. Most are from the 1990's. I went a head and through in one that BN had already painted over. But being a hopper made from Magor. Since I haven't seen many photos of them. Joel
Nice shots! That green hopper was actually delivered that way right around the merger, so it's not a repaint. The Magor hopper is about as rare as hen's teeth. If you have any in Frisco lettering, be sure to send a copy to Exactrail. I would sure like to see their model in Frisco in the future.
No, I never caught any of the Magor built hoppers before BN painted over them. I do know that the FRISCO lettering, and reporting marks were red color. And they had a skinnier font, than all the other Frisco owned covered hoppers. I am currently digging through my collection of slides. Because I have another picture of a Magor built hopper. And yes I knew that the green one wasn't a repaint. That's why I put it in here!!! I looked at it this way. If it's repainted, and renumbered. Then it's BN'ed. Other wise, it was still FRISCO!!!!
That's my mistake, I misunderstood what you meant about the BN car being the patched one. This is the only photo I've found of a Frisco Magor hopper with red lettering: http://www.railcarphotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=53487 (you may need to log in to see the full size version)
Yup, same picture as I have seen. And that's the ONLY picture of those I have seen too!!! Though it might be enough to go with. Sure wish there was a better one floating around some where. Speaking of BN painting over Frisco stuff. Was wondering. Did you happen to see this two bay hopper???? http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=3770061
No, I hadn't seen that one. It looks like maybe the bottom half had been covered in graffiti and was repainted to reproduce all the data. I can't see any evidence of damage and repair to justify such a patch job.
Kind of cool that they appear to have gone out of their way to leave as much of the large "FRISCO" lettering intact though.
