Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 Kitchen Car...Still needs underside work and top side work, but it's getting there. This was a standard roof. Each 2x6 board was individually cut and glued. Time for a change-up.
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 Sorry for the delay in a response. Painting and decals. Working on the Latrine and the Immigrant Car. Here are some photos of the decals in progress. These should be finished up this weekend. Then onto the kitchen car and others. Manny
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 Wondered where you were. Those are really neat decals! Gives them that "early era" look. Nice job.
Re: Next project: S.A. & A.P. Pile Driver No. 1 - MOW Manny, Its been kinda quiet, without you around these parts Tom Holley
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 Yeah, Health, school, truck problems, and waiting on parts. Rail Graphics did a great job on the decals for me. Lil pricey, but worth it in my opinion. More to come shortly. Manny
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 I'm not sure I want to know how that latrine car works! Nice job on the models. Ken
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 I don't know about the early days, but a shower car was quite common. When I started on the tie gang there was two showers in one end of the bunk cars. It was a converted heavy weight passenger car. There was just a hole in the floor for the shower and chemical toilets outside. Later versions had a separate shower car, with a tank that was pumped when needed. Bill Jackson
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 Anyone who has served in the military knows the drill. The barrels are removed from the compartments that are behind the hatches on the side, put on the ground away from the car, and the barrels are then topped by kerosene, stirred and burned. I intend on having that scene on the layout as I will have a few more latrine cars.
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 Kitchen car is painted and I started the decals. These were just applied and one coat of Solvaset. Many more to come, including cutting the decals on the board lines to help make them most realistic. I'm waiting on paint for the windows and doors. I'll be working on the roofs once the kitchen car is detailed. Stacks need to be painted, roofs need to be weathered, and the cars need to be weathered. Then it is moving on to another set of three cars. Manny
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 That's looking very nice. It's good to see such dedication to the early era of railroading.
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 Thank you Jim. I just hit it again with another dab of Solvaset. I'll put the third on in the morning, then cut the decals to the boards when I get back from school. I sanding sealed the Commissary, Dispensary, and the Engineer cars tonight, in preparation of paint. More to come. Hint: Hospital Car has been designed. Too cool. Wait till you see this one! Manny
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 Kitchen car is fully decked out in markings. Here is the Engineering Car ready for decals. Paint arrives tomorrow. I can start doing windows. Once the windows are in, I can do the roofs and complete the cars. Slow but steady progress for sure... Manny
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 "Slow and steady wins the race" as they say. Your modeling skills are very good, Manny. Can't wait to see a layout developing. With darkness coming earlier we should all have more hobby time a available
Re: Next project: S.A. & A.P. Pile Driver No. 1 - MOW Manny Your doing good Brother, This early stuff is way cool. Please keep posting photos, great stuff. Thanks, Tom Holley
Re: Next project: S.A. & A.P. Pile Driver No. 1 - MOW Train is growing. PFM United 2-6-2, Commissary, Engineer, Kitchen, Immigrant, Latrine... On deck to get decals: Mess, Supply, Bunk, and Immigrant Recreation.
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 That's a very nice consist. You should be proud to have built the entire thing!
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 Slow progress but here is where we stand. Don Tichy made those doors for us. Nice addition. Still need to seal with gloss and dull covering. Roofs and other work still to be done. Will hopefully be done by New Year's. Manny
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 Those are all turning out nicely. I really like the detailed visible brake detail. The custom decals are impressive as well. Nice work.
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 Ditto on JJ's post. Your track section looks good too! You seem to have improved your soldering.
