Hi My Name is Tom Holley,
I can tell you that the Q's turntable was in Quanah TX down where the cap factory is located now. I can get info on where the water tanks were, but I cannot supply pictures of any. The yard is still in good shape, they use it. I was through Quanah 2 weeks ago and there was quite a little action in the old yard there.
I did however get some really good shots of the old bridge at Acme texas. And it it still shows QUANAH ACME AND PACIFIC RAILWAY on it, with the Indian herald. I was suprised at how good shape the lettering still is.
I used some photos of the herald on the depot front and letter head. I then scanned them into a very basic program and I have come up with 4 variations of the QA&P and the QA&P on the Frisco heralds. I have printed a couple of them on my ALPS printer and they look OK. But I really need some photos of QA&P Rolling equipement. Would you know where I can come up with some pictures of anything QA&P??

    Thanks
    Tom

The best book in general on the QA&P is The Quanah Route by Don L Hofsommer. It's a history of the road from it's inception until it was officially merged into the BN in 1981. There are some equipment pictures in the book as well.

I recently picked up a copy of Frisco Southwest by John McCall and Frank A. Shultz,III. It has a whole chapter (ok, a total of 7 pages) that shows QA&P equipment (mostly locomotives).

Frisco Diesel Power by Marre and Harper has a few pictures of QA&P lettered diesels, as does Frisco in Color by Marre and Sommers. There are a few pictures of QA&P equipment in Frisco Power by Collias, Including a Color photo of QA&P caboose #52.

    I hope this helps,
    Paul

If you travel north out of Quanah on Hwy 6, just north of the town you'l go under a concrete overpass with "Q A & P Rwy" embossed on both sides. Also, if you continue travelling north into Oklahoma, you can find the foundation of a water tower, although I believe this may be by ex-Frisco rails. Look at the mileposts along the rail line, and somewhere around 700 (there is no milepost here) there are several concrete footings fof a water tower next to the track, between the track and the road.

  5. I know that in the early 80's,BevBel made a Reefer in the QA&P Scheme, and I think that Branchline Trains makes a Plug Door Box Car in the QA&P Scheme as well, but does any manufacturer make any other QA&P Rolling Stock as well as QA&P Decals?|-|

Here are three additional sources of QAP rolling stock and decals:

    1. Martin Lofton, Sunshine Models, Box 4997, Springfield, MO 65808 (really nice resin kit manufacturer). They released a QAP double sheathed wood boxcar in the 500-524 series. Kits are 59.7 (original lettering for dimensional data) and 59.8 (modernized SL-SF lettering for dimensional data). They have also produced several other specific Frisco freight car kits. See the Steam Era Freight Cars web site at: http://www.steamfreightcars.com/modeling/new products/sunshine/qapboxmain.html.

    2. Russ Clover, Clover House, P.O. Box 62, Sebastopol, CA 95472-0062, (707) 823-7301. Clover house made QAP dry transfers for double sheathed wood boxcars (pre WWII). Do not have a set number but they have a catalog available per their web site at http://www.cloverhouse.com.

    3. Tom Stolte, Oddballs Decals, 26550 227th Street, McLough, KS 66054-3514, (913) 727-6649. Oddballs Decal set is for the 1950's era GARX bunkerless refrigerators. They also have several Frisco (SL-SF) decals in their line. See the Oddballs Decals web site at: http://mopac1.tripod.com/oddballs3.htm#QAP.

Branchline Trains has the correct QAP leased GARX design plug door bunkerless refrigerator car with the "The Transcontinental Cut-off" slogan. Best of all it is available in 4 numbers. See their web site at: http://www.branchline-trains.com/blueprint/50boxcars/50'pdgarx/50pdgarx.htm

They also did the original Frisco "Ship IT on the Frisco" paint version in 4 numbers. Some cars were later purchased outright by the railroad and repainted into "standard" freight car red with SL-SF reporting marks, large coonskin and "Ship It on the Frisco!" lettering. The undecorated kit would work for this.

The Bev-Bell "The Transcontinental Cut-off" car is based on an Athearn ice bunker reefer and is not correct (40' verses 50', ice bunker verses bunkerless insulated refrigerator, door size and style, etc.).

    Hope this helps.

    All the best!
