When I was in Train Service from 1992 to 2007 I would see alot of the bolsters on rail car wheels sorta stenciled or cast with the initials SLSF on the sides of the Bolsters. Can anyone tell me if this had any significants to the FRISCO or did the SLSF stand for something else. I also seen it on the sides of the rails when I worked the old FRISCO from Neodesha to Fredonia Kansas. I figured the SLSF on the sides of the rails stood for St Louis San Francisco since it was old FRISCO Rails but the cars would be from any other railroad you could think of. I learned from the car department that alot of the trucks were recycled if they passed inspections if the original car they were placed on was involved in a derailment or something that forced the car to be put out to pasture so to speak. I am sure if you walk through a railyard and look carefully at the truck bolsters on the cars trucks, you will eventually see what I am talking about, if you dont already know. I always liked to think that that set of wheels or atleast the bolsters at one time were on an old FRISCO piece of equipment. Let me know if you have any knowledge of this. Thanks Will
When the truck frame has SLSF in the casting, that means the truck was built for a railcar on our railroad.
I forgot you worked for the railroad. Didn't you work for BN/BNSF? or did you work on a different one.
I started out my railroad career with WATCO out of Neodesha and Coffeyville and Cherryvale, then I went to Union Pacific out of San Antonio, then I went to CSX on the Baltimore service Lane out of Maryland, then Back to Watco, then I went out as a contract railroader for awhile and then I was forced to walk away. I wish I had worked for the BNSF but never had the opportunity. All total I put in 14 good years on the rails. I miss it, a little everyday, but, I still have my other way of railroading, HO SCALE and a Camera!
