In the early 1980's I made 4 trips to visit the Pocahontas Branch. The 1st time was on March 12, 1981, I headed south on HWY 63 out of Thayer & took a left onto HWY 62 at Imboden which took me straight to Pocahontas. I planned on making a loop from Thayer-Pocahontas-Grandin-Chicopee-Winona-Thayer, pretty ambitious since I had to be back by 4pm to feed the cattle. This was my 1st ever road trip scouting the old abandoned branch lines that Frisco built in NE Arkansas/SE Missouri. The 1st photo is the Pocahontas depot looking south.
For some reason I wanted to get a picture of the bridge from the other side of the river so I tried to walk across the bridge but it longer & more difficult than it looked. I could just imagine a train catching me on the bridge so I only got about halfway across...
My last photo of Pocahontas from that day was the end of the line...or as close as I could get. The end was actually in a fenced private area of the feed mill so I could never get right up to where the tracks ended. The main line is to left, the spur to the mill is on the right.
I didn't think it was this trip but one of the later ones I sketched out a couple of track profiles of Pocahontas...
