Does anyone out there have the Odd Ball decal set #48 (enclosed auto rack) that they would be willing to sell to me? I want to backdate the carrier I have. I'll foot the bill for postage and handling, too. Thank you. Larry F.

There is an OddBalls HO set 187-48 listed on eBay right now. Several other OddBalls Frisco decal sets as well.

I have bought several sets form that seller and have been given good service.

However, just try watching for HO scale Oddball Decals for the Frisco b&y stripe set or KCT "diamond herald" stripe set to come through eBay: It doesn't happen. I guess those that have them are hoarding them.

I wish we could collectively address the lack of a comprehensive Frisco black and yellow stripe set. Of course, I would also want some KCT decals... but got a feeling I would very much be in a small minority on that one.

Seeing as Oddballs has defaulted and shafted many of us (some of us for some SERIOUS dollars), I don't feel I owe him a blasted thing in regards to respect of his artwork. I would be fine with having the old and defunct Oddballs Frisco stripe set reproduced, complete with toning down the "lemon yellow" ink color that Oddballs used. I would immediately purchase at least a dozen Frisco sets and likely a half dozen KCT sets.

Some (maybe most or even all) Oddball sets came with the artwork for the actual set reproduced in black on a white piece of paper. I guess this was some kind of backing sheet for the decal sheet. I was able to use that sheet, which in this instance was for the red pass car set, to have duplicate sets made. I don't know how this would work for heralds and such having more than one color, but I would think for strips it could be done if you can find somebody who has a printer that will work on decal paper.

    Hi GS:

I have an untouched Oddballs S scale Frisco stripe set. I was wondering if the decal sheets themselves could be used for reproduction by a knowledgeable custom decal producer by reducing to HO scale. Same for the KCT, only I have that set in O scale.

    Think that would work?

I suspect that if we can find a custom decal maker that can reproduce the b&y lettering/stripe sets, we (the Frisco community) can make it worth their while in orders. I mean, the ONLY other option is using incorrect striping sets with Microscale (and others) lettering and "making do". "Way back when", I used to use Walthers stripes (which were too wide but the best I could find) and Microscale or Herald King Frisco lettering and did the best I could.

The best you can do for a decal maker, if you want to copy any image, is turn your document into a Black and White document (as GS suggests). Why? IMHO almost all programs as well as printers do not recognize White, Yellows, very well as a color. Also, you might consider making the document as large as you can, (8 1/2 X 11) so that when the image is scanned, it can be replicated, then reduced to the desired size, this will help make the lines as crisp as possible too. Different colors can be attained as multiple layers of a given document are added in the process. A lot of decal makers use Corel Draw, there is quite a learning (for me anyway) in this program.
    Anyway maybe food for thought.

Tom is correct. The problem with engaging a custom decal maker is furnishing usable artwork. If I am thinking about the right stripes, they are yellow, which will not scan well (if at all). There are lots of decal makers out there who can make up custom sets, for a price of course, but getting the artwork is another matter. I think Herald King had a stripe set that will work for black and yellow diesels. They refer to them as "Chevrons."

I have one set of the #48. Also, 4 sets of the #40, 1 set of #245 (two level open autorack) and 1 set of #247 (tri-level open). $4.50 per set, first class postage included.

    Hi again GS:

Thanks for the tip on the HK "Chevron" stripes. I think Herald King decals are no longer in production? EBay here I come. I also note the HK Chevrons are 30 degree angles. I thought the Frisco's were 45 degree? HOWEVER... it looks like the "Deep Yellow" Chevron's will work good for KCT units... now I only need the KCT "diamond" herald and I may be able to do some KCT engines!

Thanks anyway Keith but I got them off EBay last night after seeing Ken's post. What I would like to see is QA&P decals to duplicate that GARX 50'er in the Molo book-that is so cool.
