Finally, the gurgling, stinking Baldwin VO1000 has been reassigned and Newburg has a righteous switch engine now. This started life as a Fujiyama NP 0-6-0, which was stripped down to the bare boiler and redone from there. New cab, running boards, domes, stack, smokebox front, cylinders and tender plus Frisco specific detailing. Sagami can motor, Soundtraxx Econami EC 100 decoder, lights and other minor details. Runs nice and will keep the yard sorted out.
I just noticed the headlight leads sticking out of the firebox on the engineer's side. It's always something.
Don, the level of detail is impressive, as always. Guess I'd never noticed the steps in lieu of a ladder on the back of the tender. I reckon the rest of the locomotive is a distraction from the headlight leads - I'm with Bill, in that I didn't notice them until your follow-up post. What do you use for your bell rope? It's only one of the many nicely-done details. Best Regards,
I use .006 Phosphor Bronze wire that Tichy Trains sells. I have one more engine on the shelf to finish, the 736. But I bought an Akane USRA Light 2-8-2 which will be another 4000 to keep the 4003 company some day.
Are the brake hangers and shoes plastic or brass ? Is this a DCC or DC loco. How to keep brake hangers and shoes from shorting out on DCC?
Brake hangers are brass. It is DCC with a Soundtraxx Econami/current keeper. Shoes are adjustable as they are attached to the cover plate with screws and there's room to keep them away from the drivers.
That is truly great work, Don. I think what impresses me as much as your attention to detail is the high level of soldering so that no extra solder is visible. My soldering skills allow me to do the no great than 5' test. Terry
That is a most impressive piece of work Don. That tender alone is a work of art, very interesting, the extended hopper for the coal, and the angled back, all in all just a great example of you artwork. Thanks for showing us!
