I just received another batch of Kadee's new truck series today - I really like 'em, in particular the new caboose trucks. Have any of you tried the new Kadee #580 "Bettendorf"/AAR caboose trucks, or the new #583 arch bar caboose trucks?

They look good, and roll well, much better than the earlier series of Kadee HO trucks.

I really like the way the leaf spring on these caboose trucks extends way out, just like the prototype. Compare them with the pic of caboose QA&P 53 in the "Coupled Up" pic that Don recently posted in his terrific QA&P series.

Anybody have any comments on the new Kadee truck series?

I like the variety - National B-1 (#567), caboose trucks, Barber S-2, ASF "A-3 "Ride Control", arch bar, "friction" & roller bearing, smooth back and ribbed back wheels, etc etc, all well done. Strange no Andrews yet.

Thanks for the great information Ken. Will definitely need to get a few pairs of the 583's!

    Awesome!

    Howdy Ken,

I purchased the trucks some time back and really like them. Here is a link to a photo: http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?5188-Freight-Passenger-and-Caboose-Trucks&p=35699#post35699. They look very nice with crisp detailing and fine rolling characteristics. The only thing I don't like about Kadee wheel sets is that the ones I have have are cast and don't clean up a nicely as solid metal.

    Best,
    mike

I still get talk from friends who swore by the Central Valley trucks in the 70s. No longer modeling in HO, how do the current trucks on the market compare to the quality the CV´s provided? Not prototypically speaking since they were probably generic in nature when placed under specific equipment, like Frisco. I notice there are several new manufacturers who offer HO trucks and for any newcomer in the hobby this could sure confuse a person as to just what to use which trucks where if one is trying to model on a fine scale level.

How is the Proto 87 site regarding these questions?
