Let me give you all an update on our situation - no serious problem, but a bit of a challenge.

In June of 2012, Caroline and I purchased a really neat condo in Naples, Florida with the idea of staying there during the cold months, then enjoying the warm weather here in St Louis each year. Indeed, we have done that each winter since June, 2012, staying down in Naples longer each year. We were in Naples this winter from January 5 through June 9. But, as the natives there say, "Naples is being Naples again", meaning that many people who stay the winter season in Naples wind up moving there full time. The place is quite charming, and indeed, Caroline and I have made the tough decision to pull up stakes here in St Louis (we are both StL natives) and move to Naples full time. We pulled the trigger in March, and in rapid fashion, we became Florida residents (check my driver's license!), we bought a new, bigger condo large enough to live in full time, we listed our present condo, and we sold our present condo. We are now back home in Frontenac getting our current house here ready to list, which will happen in short order. Whew! I'm amazed at how fast all this happened.

The point of this is as follows: I have a large stash of Frisco items - books, models, magazines, SLSF items, historical society bulletins, track plans, pictures, 35mm slides, timetables, annual reports, loco and car diagrams, etc etc etc etc etc. Though the new place is considerably bigger than our current condo (but has an equal dynamite view of the Gulf!), there is not near enough room to house all this Frisco, and other railroad, stuff. What to do?

I am working on plans now to dispose of much of these items. I am talking with institutions and others who might be interested, but I believe there is a significant role for frisco.org members in this. I want much of this stuff to be preserved for future friscophiles to benefit from; I am not going to try to make a bunch of money from it - though a few bucks would be nice, and I'd like to spread it around as best I can. Problem is, much of it is massive, and would be hard and expensive to ship. Pick ups in St Louis are easy to arrange, and Kurt has agreed to make his home in Olathe also available as a pick up spot. He'll be here several times as we break up our household here.

Anybody with any ideas on how to distribute a large collection like this, please post your idea, or pm me. As initial examples, following are some of the large bulky items I am talking about:

o Every issue, including hard to find #'s 1-5, of Mainline Modeler
o Every issue of Extra 2200 South (some of the early issues are reproductions made by the Dovers)
o A huge collection of SLSF 35mm slides, mostly diesel, little steam, lots of b/y, about 99% purchased
o A large collection of Frisco b/w prints, steam and diesel. Some rare
o A huge Frisco annual report collection
o A huge Frisco public timetable collection (over 90% of all issues since 1927)
o A huge other railroad public timetable collection
o An extensive Lionel catalog collection, mostly mint or near mint, since about 1947
o A complete Frisco system set of track plan books from 1981 (yeah, I know it says BN on the covers)
o Every issue of Model Railroader since the late 1960's (might be missing a few)
    o Every Don Ball book
o Every S. Kip Farrington book
o The four Frisco-containing Lucius Beebe books
o Every issue of "Classic Trains", including its predecessors
o The three volumes of "The Santa Fe Modeler, The Jared Harper Years"
    o Models galore!

Any ideas folks? How can we do this?

We close on the new place in Naples early August, and I have to have much of this stuff on the way out of here by then. I'm working actively to do that, because no way I can take it to Florida.

I'll have to think about that, I would like to fill up my collection of Prototype Cyclopedia, though I'm only short a few. Track Cyclopedia or Car Cyclopedia would be of interest.

    Ken,

I would like to talk to you about any of these items that could be published on the Frisco Archive. Slides, annual reports, timetables.

Bill - I have every issue of Pat and Ed's RPCyc, #'1 thru #31/32. I wouldn't want to break up the set - in particular since I have only read up through issue #18!

    Just not enough time.

    Bump thread...

I made an appointment with Ken and purchased several models from him. If at all possible you should take the time, make the trip, to check it out. The behind the scenes stories, little known facts and Ken and Caroline's gracious hospitality alone are worth the trip. Time is of the essence. Thanks Ken.

    Ken:

As you may know, I have become the custodian of (I think) most it not all of the slides that have appeared at one time or another in the Archive section of this site. If you would like, I will be happy to take custody of the slides you are wanting to unload. I do not want to buy them from you, as I am not personally a slide collector, but if you want what you have to find a safe home that will allow other members to access them, let me know and I can give you shipping instructions, or I can take a run up to St. Louis and pick them up. I will also take the MP art off your hands. Send me a PM when you figure out the shipping cost and I will send you a check.

The "fire sale" continues - have had some success moving some locomotives, rolling stock, wall art and Frisco paper items, but need to do more. Here's one that should be of interest - a Broadway Limited Frisco SW7 done as SLSF 304, details added include brake hoses, roof beacon, radio antenna, Kadee couplers, window shade, all-weather window, brass bell and shading of grills and stack exhaust. Original box and all documentation included. Runs smoothly. DC only right now, but this model also came with sound, so it should be easily to upgrade.

Yours for $75.00 total. I'll pay the shipping to you via USPS Priority Mail, probably flat rate. Payment from frisco.org members via personal check, or via PayPal using the "friends and family" option only. Let me know.

More is coming. I've got to get rid of some of this stuff - can't take it with me to Florida, unfortunately.

Several pics of this SW7 are in my album, look in page 2. I'll try to attach a couple.

What I plan to do is to take the models I don't sell now with us to Florida, and then get quite active on eBay to sell them off via eBay auctions. That will give me something to do besides looking at the beach bunnies!

As I thought about my SW7 listing above last night in bed, I came to the conclusion that I have posted an "eBay-like" price, not a "fire sale" price. Sorry about that.

Let's change the asking price to $75.00, and I'll still pay for USPS Priority Mail shipping. Since that will be about $14, your actual net price for SLSF 304 would be about $60.

I'll modify my earlier post. Thanks.

As I have posted above, Caroline and I will relocate to Naples, Florida in October. We have sold our house in Frontenac (St Louis) and will close on it end-September. The move to clean out 31 years of "stuff" accumulated in this house is well underway.

We met today with an estate sale person, and plan on an estate sale early to mid-September. She surprised me today by specifically mentioning that she would like to include the railroad stuff in the event, so we will likely do it. This eases the task of selling off the framed pictures without the need for complicated shipping - the ones posted above will be included, plus most likely I'll include my three framed Ben Dedek prints of the Frisco F3's and E8's, plus the MKT/SLSF Texas Special E7. I have all three, but there is no room for them in Florida. We will also include over 200 railroad and naval history books (my two passions), and I'll no doubt include almost all of my Frisco stash of paper, booklets, railroad guides, track plans, employee timetables, playing cards, match book cars, decals, etc. There also will probably be aircraft models and ship models. We'll see. This greatly eases my mind as I now see a much better way to move this stuff to folks who will enjoy it, rather than me trashing much of it, or donating it to the book fair or merc library, etc. (FYI, my slides will go to frisco.org via Greg Stout and Charlie). The Frisco annual reports are gone, the framed Frisco USA wall map is gone, and several cars and locomotives are gone - but she indicated that she is willing to include models (rolling stock, locomotives, structures, etc) in the sale, both built and still in kit-form, and I can assure you there still is a bunch left.

Anyway, I'll advise when this all will happen (will be a weekend in September). Hopefully this might be of some interest to Frisco friends in not only St Louis, but perhaps in the KC area and around Missouri, Cape, Memphis, etc as well. Hope so, if not, I still wanted to advise you of it. I'm feeling much better about this move now!

Last week in Naples, starting on Monday, we moved out of the condo we have had since 2012, closed on it Tuesday, closed on the new condo we bought Wednesday (about a mile up the boulevard, still in Pelican Bay, still with a dynamite gulf view!), and moved into the new place Wednesday/Thursday. We then flew back to StL yesterday. We are both worn out!

I will be in St. Louis next week and can pick up slides on Friday 8/18 or Saturday 8/19. If you can send me a PM with a telephone number, perhaps we can figure out a time.

Bless your soul, Ken, and a hale and hearty "thank you" from Frisco nation. I'll look forward to the date - if the stars align, it'd be great to stop by to/from a visit to my convalescing grandmother in Cape County.

I don't think that Naples is terribly far across the peninsula from Jupiter, where you could enjoy some palm trees and baseball between mid-February and the end of March. :)

    Best Regards,
