Lenexa sat at the top of the hill as the Frisco climbed from the Turkey Creek drainge. During my high school years, I worked at a printing company that was located on Santa Fe trail Dr at MP 13.25. When the wind was right, one could hear the trains as they hit the 0.60% grade at 75th Street. It was always easy to tell when a train had one of the U-boats. South of Pflumm Rd the line negotiated a series of reverse curves, and it made a gorgeous sight as trains canted through this section. When 95th St was extended, the BN changed the alignment through this area. Cross-over C had a set of number 20 turnouts with curved points. Diverging movements were good for 50 mph, before the speed limit on the East Main was dropped to 35 mph. When the I-435 Overpass was built, the bridges obscured the east main, southbound signals. The Frisco placed a white lamp on the north end of the CTC House. When it was illuminated, it indicated that the Southward signal at Cross-over C (east main) was giving a proceed indication Before this area developed, one could chase trains between Olathe and Lenexa along Santa Fe Trail Dr with little concern about speed limits or traffic. Not so, anymore
