HEY, All you Missouri, Kansas fans.
What the heck happened to those Jayhawks?
I sure did not expect that outcome!
    I am crushed!

Here is something you can count on...go back and look. When Kansas loses in the tournament, the score is always somewhere in the 50s or low 60s. They never lose if it's a track meet, but do not seem to be able to beat a team that slows down the pace.

    Sherrel -

First of all, Villanova is a great basketball team. They were #1 for a short while this season.

Second - KU always seems to have some trouble with "big east" heritage teams. I think they played 'nova last year early in the season, and also lost. Greg is correct - low scoring games do not fit KU's style well. Remember Bucknell?

Third - I'm crushed too. I thought the Jayhawks were going to win it again this time. Perry was defended very well and as a result had a bad outing. I think the 'nova coach outdid Bill a bit as well.

Next year maybe! Don't discount the 'hawks winning the Big Twelve for twelve years in a row this year. They still had a great season. Bill Self has coached KU in the Big Twelve for thirteen years now; has finished first or tied for first the last twelve.

Missouri? They do not seem to be enjoying SEC basketball much! Instead of looking up to KU, now they have to look up to UK. I feel for them - they moved to the SEC for football $$$, not basketball glory.

ps - Sherrel: a few weeks ago I was taking a walk and a beautiful B-24 Liberator in all her WW-2 glory flew over low just having taken off from the local airport. It looked terrific and sounded even better! Were those Wright Cyclones? Great noise!

Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Wasps powered the B-24.

    Yes the B-24 were powered by 4 Pratt & Whitney R-1830, 14 cylinder radial's.

Wonder how many of those are left in flying condition? I remember seeing one years ago at an air show in Cape Girardeau. I just remember thinking that it looked a little dumpy when compared to a B-25 that was at the same show. Nevertheless, the two sounds that I love to hear: a good steam locomotive and a radial engine.

Any Missouri fan who knows what's good for 'em will just keep their mouth shut about basketball for the foreseeable future. If I recall correctly, they interviewed Bill Self in '99 for the opening when Norm "retired," and they went with Quin instead. That's a tough one to take.

    Best Regards,

Can you imagine the deafening roar as a 1000 plane raid (B-17s and B24s) was forming over England along with their fighter escort. We see a B24 once a year in Tulsa flying out of Jones airport in south Tulsa. When it flies over my house, it is deafening. I hear it even if I am mowing. I also have seen a B-17 and a B-29 fly out of Jones airport. There are some WWII fighter planes that are hangared at Jones, and they fly almost every weekend. They take off right over the golf course across 91st street, and, as expected, golfing comes to a stop as they are VERY loud. Quite an experience.

After Wichita State lost, I lost interest. I was always a Missouri fan but this racial crapola that went on over the year caused me to no longer care.

That was the first B-24 I had ever seen in the air. I've seen a few on the ground at air museums or air shows. They had one here two years ago with a B-17, but were only flying the "17".

Thanks for the replies, Gentlemen. Over the years I have not followed basketball that close .. college or pro.
Just the last few years have I taken a real interest in college football because of daughters husbands.
I do root(is that a word) for Kansas = mainly because of my friends at Frisco.org.

Anyway ... I think you guys are talking about the B-17, B-24, amd B-25 from the Collins Foundation.
A friend here took me out to the local a/p about a month after I returned from hospital bout with the big C.
The B-25 was missing from the show because of a prop overhaul. Larry and I pretty well climbed all over the 17 and 24.
I am not positive, but I think that the B-24 may be the only one left flying .

    Sherrel -
I don't recall seeing the red/white striped rudders on the "24" I saw fly over in Naples a few weeks ago. Maybe they repainted it, or maybe there is another flying?

Most Memorial Days, we are visited in St Louis by a B-25. It flies out of Spirit of St Louis airport then, and on its way downtown for its flyovers it goes right over our house, I'd guess at ~3000ft. It's a great looker, and also great sound from the two radials.

What engine did the "25" use?

Ken, the "25" had the Wright 2600 (1700hp).

    I guess that the
Collins B-24 is the only J model .. apparently there are several others around.

I remember trying to sign up with the folks who were going to invade Cuba. They were looking for pilots on the B-25's they had. I couldn't make the grade because I did not have a multi engine rating at the time. Probably best that it did not work out!

Unless they changed in the last few years, the B-25 flies out of Smart Field in St. Charles.

My dad had a friend who was part of the crew and we use to go to their air shows that included several simulated bombing runs and several WWII war birds.

Both my dad and his friend are long gone now and I haven't been to Smart Field in a few years, so they could have moved.
