Thanks for this. My father worked as a telegrapher until he transitioned over as a dispatcher. I learned a little more about his life today...

The Ozarks Watch article by Jim Thompson is superb. Did he do any other articles on telegraphy ?

Great article. I still miss the sound and smells of a depot. I haven't heard a sounder for years.
Wonder where the "boxcar" depot was?

I don't know for sure, only stumbled across this one. Maybe someone else might know.

The Frisco Depot at Cliquot, Mo was a boxcar, however that one had steel ends. Cliquot, MO 1952.jpg

Cool picture ! I have a friend who lives in Oakhurst Ok, in a really old house about 300 feet from the Frisco main. The house started out as one of these boxcars and more rooms were built on around it. One of the steel ends is visible as part of an exterior wall, and what really surprised me is that under the house, the arch bar trucks are still there ! fun stuff.
