This caboose is on private, gated property at 1201 E Chestnut St, Carthage, MO. Its reporting marks indicate that it is SLSF #1201 but I question the appellation.

Keith - On first look, doesn't look like anything legit Frisco to me. It is certainly not SLSF 1201. Looks like they might have numbered it for their street address.

Anything in Frisco colors looks good, though!

It looks like a converted boxcar, but I believe all the Frisco-converted boxcar cabooses had wide-vision cupolas. Mark D will have to weigh in.

I too don't think it looks legit, but I do think it looks good because its a frisco paint job done fairly close to the real thing.

The caboose is of Missouri Pacific origin. If I recall correctly, it is one of the MoPac's Magor built cars dating back to 1937. I purchased both of the Carthage depot sign boards in about 1986 at an auction in Carl Junction. The station signs were/are the porcelain maroon and cream colored style signs. I parted with one after the depot was relocated and I think it is on the west end of the structure currently. John Chambers possibly has more information on the caboose. Refering to G. J. Michels' Cabooses of the Missouri Pacific Lines, because of the window placement, this caboose seems to be a Sedalia built copy of the Magor design. A table in the back of the book lists Magor copy M. P. 1246 as being sold to Carthage Underground. The caboose was built in 1953 and retired January 28, 1972.

That makes sense especially with the Carthage Underground note. I am certain that is where the car came from.

I just confirmed with Bob King that it is the former Mop Magor caboose that was formerly at the Carthage Underground.
