    Hello to the Group!

My name is Mike Bowline, I live in Denver yet my heart remains in Kansas City after growing up in Lawrence and going to KU.

I lived in Tulsa before and during the BN overtake, so I got to see lots of Frisco action.

After 20 years in N scale, aging eyes have dictated a shift in scale to HO with the promise of SOUND. :) My N scale Arkansas and Union RR will be abandoned in favor of a new direction in HO.

I am researching and designing a 11'x10' around-the-wall HO layout depicting the Kansas City Terminal and all the action around the West Bottoms and the 19th Street Yard area.

But I have so much to learn about who owned what yard in 1949-1953, the era I am considering modeling. The literature so far researched just tells me who owned and operated which yards within the recent past. I need to learn more about the 1949-1952 timeframe. I hope to learn who owned and operated yards: Neff, Avondale, Knoche, Armourdale, Armstrong, Murray, 19th Street (Frisco?), Quindad,, Mill St.

See, I do have a LOT to learn!! But the learning is fun for me and I would like to ensure my modeling is somewhat historically accurate, especially for when some of you stop in Denver to say hello on your way to the slopes .

So that's it. Hello and I look forward to learning from many of you as I move forward.

Mike, by all means Welcome Aboard.

The West Bottoms has had lots of discussion on the board. Some of the links you would be interested in are:

All of the above are some samples from this search:

The Small Layout Design Catalog that we started can also provide some ideas for the West Bottoms as well as other areas:

If you can ever arrange to make the trip to KC, I would strongly recommend that you coordinate your visit with Rick McClellan, Mark Davidson (mark) and yours truly Keith Robinson (klrwhizkid). With enough advance planning we could arrange a walking/driving tour of the West Bottoms, get you in to see some layouts that feature the local area, and maybe an operating session as well. The local modelers are a great group!

BTW, the Frisco had 19th St and Rosedale yards here and are modeled nicely on Rick's Frisco Northern Division.
