These are some shots of my car from a NARCOA event sponsored by the Oklahoma Railway Museum on the Arkansas-Oklahoma Railroad on April 12, 2008. Set-on was at McAlester, OK running east to Red Oak, OK and return, a total of 87.6 miles on this ex Rock Island line. The car is a Fairmont MT14. It was built for Frisco March 13, 1980 and shipped to Tulsa, OK. The car is a good runner with a strong engine. To date, I have put 749 miles on the car. Jeff Cooney. Lindsay, TX

I friend of mine purchased the car from BN in the mid '80's and I got the car from him in 2002. I believe he picked the car up in Oklahoma City. Jeff

Do you have any experiences or have you seen any track motor cars manufactured by Tamper, Inc, (Now Harsco Track Technologies)? Tamper's former owner purchased Kalamazoo Ry. Products in 1969 and Kalamazoo Ry. Products then lost their identity.

I am involved somewhat in restoring a 1979 model TMC-2 purchased by the Frisco RR in 1979 and shipped in Dec. 1979. This car was manufactured in Columbia, S.C. There reportedly are only a couple of the TMC-2 models still active in the U.S. There were very few of these cars sold in the U.S. however a number of them were exported. Since the TMC-2 appears to be in the same time frame as your MT-14, they may share some history? We have compiled some history on the 1979 TMC-2 but are still researching.

Harsco purchased Fairmont Ry. Motors in the 1980's and in 1992, Harsco purchased Tamper, Inc. The name was changed to Fairmont Tamper.
I have the 100 year anniversary booklet published in 2009. It is very interesting and informative.

By chance, do you have any information on how the Frisco unit numbers were assigned? e.g. your R.C. 2600 12

Your RC. 2600 12 looks real nice.

I have no knowledge of the TMC cars other than a friend of mine in Greenville, TX purchased one a year or so ago and has since sold it. I was unaware Frisco had used any of these cars. The RC designator for rail cars/track cars dates back to at least the 1920's verifed through photographs. I have no information on historical numbering sequence. I would be interested to see a photo of your car. I suspect my car was in the last group ordered by SLSF from Fairmont as it was built and received March, 1980 and merger occured in November. Neat set of photos Jeff! (Edit) What model paint do you think is a good match for that Frisco M/W yellow? Looks like the same color that was used on the highway trucks.

The official specification arm for MofW Equipment is Committee #27. Practically all major railroads in the U.S. (maybe North America) use these specifications throughout their equipment specifications.

Committee #27 recommend Yellow # 13538, unless specified otherwise. Fuel, hydraulic, saftey locks and other related items have their separate colors. Regardless from what paint manufacturer makes the paint, it must meet the specifications for that particuliar color number. As I understand it, this is the method used in all government procurement and is widely used in industry. Paint stores recognize this number (13538)

This is not to say it is what is used on Jeff's motor car.

I was only concerned with what model paint (Color, brand etc.)--It looks like school bus color would do fine. It is different from the yellow on the locomotive, whatever that would be??

Tom, I would think for model purposes, "Reefer Yellow" would be a good match. Fairmont's color was "Federal Yellow". I used Rustoleum "Old Caterpillar Yellow" which is dead on. Jeff

Thanks Jeff--I have some (VERY LITTLE, it's N scale) pewter car kits that I want to put together and paint. I'm trying to figure out what to do for a N scale version of that Frisco coonskin decal above the windshield! :D
